Curator’s statement
In March 2023, my family and I stayed at the enchanting Nayara Tented Camp in the Arenal Volcano region of Costa Rica. From the moment you arrive to the welcoming tent, you are enveloped in a world where nature and luxury meet. The food, attentive staff and impeccable surroundings round out this resort and make it a bucket list must!

Nayara Tented Camp is about 2.5 to 3 hours from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José, which is the main airport for most travelers. It is best to arrange transportation from the airport ahead of time. After a long day of air travel, it was a relief for my weary family to simply hop into a van and let the professionals safely navigate the winding, narrow roads to the hotel.

My family of five enjoyed the spacious and luxurious accommodations in the family tents. The family tent consisted of two inter-connected tents - one with a King bed and one with two twin beds and a rollaway bed. Our favorite part was the plunge pool, which was fed by the hot springs. It also overlooked the volcano as well as the private outdoor shower surrounded by nature. From the hammock on our deck we could spot exotic birds, sloths, toucans and howler monkeys.
The hardest part was never wanting to leave, but so much adventure abounds nearby. Explore hanging bridges, waterfalls, zip-lining, volcano hikes and white-water rafting, all within a short distance.

Nayara Tented Camp is part of the larger Nayara Resorts complex, which allows guests access to six dining options across the properties. All accessible via resort shuttle transportation. Not to be missed is the in-room breakfast delivered fresh to your private porch. You can enjoy fresh fruits and pastries, omelets and more from the plunge pool, on the private deck or inside the tent while listening to the rainforest sounds. It’s a perfect way to wake up slowly and soak in the luxury of Nayara.
Need to know
I recommend Nayara Tented Camp to my clients looking for the perfect mix of luxury and nature in the Costa Rican rainforest region. It's set up perfect for families with older kids but would be wonderful as a romantic getaway for two. It's private, quiet and the perfect respite after a long day of adventure.
Don’t underestimate the time it takes to travel to the airports, hotels or excursions. There is so much to see and do in Costa Rica, but don’t feel the need to do it all at once! Scheduling down time is critical to coming away from your vacation feeling refreshed and ready to plan your next adventure.
