Curator’s statement
If you’re staying along the Makarska Riviera, do yourself a favor and carve out time for the Biokovo Skywalk. This glass platform jutting out over the mountain is one of those “wow, Croatia really does it all” moments—blue Adriatic shimmering below, craggy peaks behind you, and a little flutter in your stomach when you step onto the glass for the first time. Equal parts beauty and bravery, in the best way.

It’s peaceful up there, with that fresh mountain air and wide-open quiet that feels worlds away from the coast—the perfect reset between beach days.
About the road
Let’s be honest: getting there is an adventure in itself. The road is incredibly narrow, winding, and hugs the mountain with steep drop-offs. Passing spots are limited, and you’ll often need to stop and maneuver around oncoming cars. If you don’t love cliff-side driving, don’t force it—book a guided transfer. You’ll enjoy the day so much more without white-knuckling the wheel.
In Biokovo Nature Park
Don’t just Skywalk and leave. This park is full of surprises.
Spot wild horses. Yes, really! Seeing them roaming the high plains is such a special moment.
Continue to St. Jure (if you’re comfortable with the drive), the highest peak in Dalmatia—views for days.
Explore a short hike and take in the quiet mountain scenery.
Stop at scenic viewpoints along the way—you’ll want photos at every turn.
Visit Kotišina Botanical Garden near the entrance to see native alpine plants.
Enjoy a meal at the mountaintop restaurant near the Skywalk—simple, rustic, and perfect after the adrenaline of the glass platform.
Pro tips
Reserve timed tickets ahead. They do sell out in season.
Go early or at golden hour for fewer crowds and dreamy light.
Bring a layer. It’s cooler up here than by the sea.
Wear real shoes (not flip-flops). You’re on a mountain.
If heights or mountain roads aren’t your thing, take a tour and let someone else drive. Worth. Every. Penny.
Bottom line
Fast visit, massive payoff. A little nerve-tingling, a lot of wow, and a side of Croatia most people never see—wild, raw, and unforgettable. If you want a break from beach mode and a memory that stays with you, this is it.
