Skiing at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming offers a truly unique and memorable experience, especially for those seeking deep powder and a relaxed, uncrowded atmosphere. Located on the western slope of the Teton Range, just outside of Driggs, Idaho, the resort receives some of the most reliable and abundant snowfall in North America—often exceeding 500 inches per season. This consistent snowfall makes it a paradise for powder hounds, while the resort’s laid-back vibe and absence of large crowds allow for more time on the slopes and less time waiting in lift lines. With over 2,600 acres of skiable terrain, Grand Targhee offers a great mix of groomed runs, tree skiing, and off-piste opportunities for both beginners and seasoned skiers.

One of the standout aspects of Grand Targhee is its accessibility and friendliness for families and intermediate skiers. Wide-open groomers, gentle slopes, and a top-rated ski school make it a welcoming destination for newcomers to the sport. At the same time, expert skiers can head to the challenging terrain off of Mary’s Nipple or explore the hike-to zones that often stay untouched for days after a storm. The resort’s backcountry access is also a major draw for those with the gear and knowledge to venture beyond the resort boundaries, offering breathtaking descents with Teton backdrops.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the Grand Targhee area offers plenty of winter activities that make it a well-rounded destination. Nordic skiing and snowshoeing trails weave through the surrounding national forest, and the resort also offers fat biking on groomed trails—one of the few places in the country where you can ride a bike through the snow. For a more relaxing experience, visitors can enjoy scenic snowcat tours or unwind at the resort’s spa and hot tubs after a long day on the slopes. The small base village offers cozy lodging, local eateries, and live music, creating a warm, community feel that stands in contrast to the commercialism of larger ski resorts.

Nearby towns like Driggs and Victor add to the charm of a Grand Targhee visit. These towns offer additional dining, art galleries, and boutique shops, along with a local vibe that makes visitors feel right at home. Jackson Hole is just over Teton Pass and makes for a great day trip if you're looking to explore more of the region. Whether you're a powder seeker, a family on vacation, or just someone looking for a quieter mountain escape, Grand Targhee delivers an authentic and rewarding Wyoming ski experience.

Need to know

The resort is lovingly nicknamed "Grand Foghee" because it often experiences foggy or low-visibility days. However, the frequent powder and bluebird days make it worth the risk.
