Trip overview: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa
I had the chance to stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa from August 30 to September 3, 2025, and it truly lived up to its reputation as one of Maui’s most well-rounded oceanfront resorts.
First impressions
When I first arrived at night, the property was beautifully lit—palm trees glowing, torches flickering, and that perfect mix of tropical and luxurious. It immediately felt welcoming and upscale, the kind of place that makes you excited to explore the next morning.

The resort is about an hour’s drive from Kahului Airport (OGG), and the trip was easy with a rental car. Once you’re there, you’re right in the heart of Kāʻanapali—close to Whalers Village, which became one of my favorite spots for dinner and evening strolls. Snorkel tours, like Teralani, even depart from the same stretch of beach just a few resorts down, which is incredibly convenient for guests who want to explore the water without venturing far.
The property
The Hyatt Regency Maui is a large, oceanfront resort with over 800 rooms and 31 suites. It’s definitely a family-friendly property, with plenty of kids around and lots of energy throughout the day. That said, there are quiet areas too—including an adults-only pool and a relaxing hot tub open until 10:30 pm. One standout feature I loved: the pools are open 24 hours, which is almost unheard of in Hawai'i.

There’s no shortage of things to do here—golf, basketball, pickleball, and even wildlife encounters. The penguin habitat and astronomy program add a really unique touch that guests of all ages can enjoy.
For weddings and groups, the property offers a variety of ballrooms and outdoor venues, making it a great fit for events and incentive trips.
Dining
Dining was another highlight. There’s a good mix of options—from the Japanese restaurant and steakhouse to a casual bar and grill, plus a daily breakfast buffet that’s included for my clients who book through Hyatt Privé (a great added value).
The resort also hosts a traditional Hawaiian luau on site, which looked lively and fun, though it can be on the pricier side.
Staff & accommodation
Throughout the stay, the staff stood out for their warmth and attentiveness. Check-in was seamless, and thanks to Hyatt Privé benefits, we were upgraded to a nicer room with a beautiful view.
The rooms themselves are spacious, with light, airy decor and thoughtful touches that make them feel comfortable even in the Maui heat.

In sum
Overall, I’d give the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa an 8/10. It’s vibrant, full of energy, and has something for everyone. It’s especially perfect for families, destination weddings, and groups who want an active, convenient base in Maui. Couples looking for a quieter, adults-only vibe might prefer a smaller resort, but for most travelers, this one hits the sweet spot between luxury, fun, and convenience.
It’s a place I’d absolutely recommend—and one I’d stay at again myself.

Need to know
I would definitely recommend renting a car if you plan on leaving the resort at all. The flexibility of having a car will let you experience all of Maui.
