Sierra Lago is one of those places that completely changes how you think about Mexico. The drive up is an adventure in itself, with a narrow, winding road that hugs the mountainside and offers breathtaking views along the way. Just when you start to wonder where you are headed, you arrive at the top to find a beautiful resort perched high above it all, with sweeping views of the mountains and a sparkling lake below. The property feels like a hidden retreat, far away from the beach towns and busy cities, yet every detail is warm and inviting.

Beautiful hike
The service here is outstanding and the hotel itself is stunning. It is also a dream for families. Kids can spend their days riding horses, exploring the game room, paddling around the lake on boards or boats, and swimming in the pool. We took several horseback rides during our stay, each one with gorgeous scenery and plenty of space to roam. The surrounding trails make for beautiful hikes, and the evenings are perfect for relaxing in the hot tub under the stars.

Horse stables

Sierra Lago is all-inclusive, but not in the typical sense. There is no repetitive buffet line here. Instead, you can order freshly prepared dishes from a menu, and the food is genuinely delicious. Between the peaceful setting, the variety of activities, and the thoughtful service, Sierra Lago is the kind of place you leave already dreaming about your next visit. It is truly a special corner of Mexico.

Need to know
Take the bikes around the lake. The resort has complimentary bikes, and the loop offers some of the best views on the property.
Visit the Orange Tree. This striking art piece is an iconic symbol of Tafer Hotels & Resorts and lights up beautifully at night. It makes for a memorable photo stop during the day and an even more magical view after dark.
Plan your drive carefully. The road up is narrow and can feel intimidating. Take it slow, and try to time your trip so you are going up before most guests check out or going down after most guests have arrived. This helps avoid meeting cars head-on in the tightest spots.
Pack for cool evenings. Even in summer, mountain air can be crisp at night, so bring a light jacket.
