This 12-room boutique hotel in Umbertide is the definition of hospitality. Beyond the gorgeous grounds and spacious accommodations, the warmth and attentiveness of the staff made this one of my most memorable stays. Vocabolo Moscatelli - Main Villa

Vocabolo Moscatelli resides in a transformed 12th-century monastery nestled in a quiet valley. Walking through the front door of the property felt less like entering a lobby and rather gave us the sense of coming home. We were greeted with warmth from the moment we arrived. Our Villa Suite was incredibly spacious with a separate living area and an oversized tub designed for two.

Vocabolo encourages each guest to slow down and reconnect (even their Wi-Fi password serves as a gentle reminder). Breakfast is served at any hour of the day because luxury shouldn’t be limited by a schedule. Handwritten turndown cards with pressed flowers from the garden offer daily words of contemplation. Each staff member also offers moments of connection. Challenge the bar manager to a game of chess or sit with the hotel manager as he serves limoncello by the outdoor fire pit before you turn in for the night.

Dining room

For activities, savor a sunny day by the pool or allow the hotel to book a massage or a ceramics class for you. We opted for a cooking class and had the most incredible experience making a meal in a local chef’s residence.

Every detail at Vocabolo Moscatelli is intentional. I highly recommend this boutique hotel for anyone looking for a restorative and memorable stay in Umbria.

Need to know

  • The property is remote, so having a vehicle is a necessity if you wish to explore neighboring towns or restaurants. My husband and I rented a car in Florence and arrived at the estate in just under two hours.

  • Be sure to stay over on a Sunday evening and enjoy the lively Pizza Night. Even locals look forward to attending this weekly dinner.

  • To maintain a serene environment, the property only allows children 14 and older.
