Step into Paradise at the Fiji InterContinental Resort

Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Fiji consists of over 300 enchanting islands, with Viti Levu being the main destination hub for most visitors. The moment we began to descend into one of Fiji's airports, we started to realize the breathtaking beauty this country has to offer. From the turquoise ocean waves crashing on the silky sandy beaches to the lush rainforests and secret waterfalls, there's something to enjoy each day. Once landing, we were immersed in the inviting atmosphere of the Fijian culture, which was amplified the moment we arrived at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, an experience seldom experienced when traveling. It made us feel welcomed in such a way that we never wanted to leave.

Situated on the world-famous white-sand beaches of Natadola Bay, less than an hour's drive from Nadi Airport, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is comprised of 266 bungalow-style rooms that are spread throughout the 35-acre property. This beach resort is thoughtfully designed to capture the essence of Fiji, with most rooms having a beautiful view of the azure South Pacific Ocean. As we walked the property grounds, passing the beautiful pools and lily pad ponds, we were greeted by each and every staff member with a joyful "Bula," which means hello in Fijian. One of our morning rituals was walking along the pristine white-sand beach, enjoying the sound of crashing waves while relaxing on one of the many cabanas. When there was high tide, we would go snorkeling to enjoy the beautiful, clear blue waters and see the multitude of colorful fish swimming amongst the coral reef, steps from our room. After a full day of enjoying the Fijian lifestyle, we had four outstanding restaurants to indulge in before returning to our room to enjoy the comforts of evening turndown service.

Every day is filled with new experiences and excursions at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa. From days exploring the beautiful coral reefs to days at the spa and relaxing by the pool, this resort has something that caters to all interests. To name a few options you can enjoy without leaving the resort, check out playing a round of golf at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course. Sign up to partake in one of their hydrosport excursions, including taking Jet Skis to a remote coral reef to go snorkeling or scuba diving (this was one of our favorite days on the island), enjoy a parasailing outing, or a fishing expedition. Interested in a relaxing day instead? Sign up for a spa experience, a massage along the beach under a cabana, or a bath ritual to end the evening.

We were interested in exploring more of the island, so we looked into a variety of resort-offered off-site excursions, including ziplining through Zip Fiji (our personal favorite), off-roading cave exploration, a river safari, or a cultural experience in one of the local Fijian villages. There are so many activities and excursions to choose from, allowing each trip to be memorable and leaving a desire to return and experience more of what the island has to offer.

With so many unique opportunities to experience the Fijian Islands, there are countless reasons why travelers should have Fiji on their bucket list. We visited the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa as the first destination on our dream honeymoon, and I believe it's a perfect destination resort for those looking for a romantic beach getaway, family reunion, honeymoon, elopement, anniversary trip, or a family's first beach trip. This hotel is able to accommodate whichever trip you are planning by offering an adults-only pool, romantic oceanside cabana dining, and luxury couples massages for a romantic experience, while also providing access to a kids club, an activity pool, and daily family-friendly resort entertainment for those interested in a family vacation. With all these amenities and experiences, everyone visiting this amazing resort will enjoy their time spent on this enchanting island, with the only regret being leaving too soon.

Fiji is a wonderful place, and I highly recommend adding this destination to your bucket list. Reflecting on our trip to Fiji, there were a few things we learned for our next trip to the wonderful islands of Fiji.

• Although rental cars are affordable, they are not needed and can cause more of a hassle.

• Visit when wind speeds are generally low, so as to avoid water excursions being cancelled due to hazardous ocean conditions.

• If you have the time to spend longer than a weekend trip, take the opportunity, you will not regret it!
