Hotel Spotlight on ESPACIO: The Jewel of Waikiki Hawai'i
Curator’s statement

Espacio is one of those rare finds that feels like a true hidden gem, tucked away from the chaos of Waikiki into its own quiet, tranquil world. With only nine rooms in the entire hotel, every detail feels intentional and personal, from the in-room hot tub to the private reserved pool experience. It strikes that perfect balance of quiet luxury without ever feeling stuffy or overdone, genuinely a home away from home. The moment you step inside, the energy shifts completely, and that contrast alone makes it one of the most special places.

Dining

Espacio is genuinely one of those places that is hard to put into words until you have been there. With only nine suites in the entire building, each one occupying its own full floor, the level of privacy and exclusivity you feel from the moment you step inside is unlike anything I have experienced at a traditional luxury hotel. The hotel offers two-bedroom suites with a den or three-bedroom suites, with a limit of six adults per suite. The Japanese philosophy of omotenashi drives every touchpoint of the service, from the dedicated butler to the private car service, and you feel that intentionality in every single interaction. Walking in from the noise and energy of Waikiki, the shift in atmosphere is immediate and almost startling in the best way. It is quiet, serene, and completely its own world.

Welcome room

The suites themselves are stunning. Each one comes with an outdoor private hot tub on the balcony, deep soaking tubs with rainfall showers, premium bedding, and a full kitchen, which is a big part of what makes it feel less like a hotel stay and more like a luxurious home base in Hawai’i. The interiors are decked in Italian marble with Moroccan accents, and the attention to detail throughout the space is genuinely impressive. The private reserved pool experience on the rooftop is one of my favorite features. The rooftop sun deck has an infinity pool with sweeping views, and being able to have that space feel like it is truly yours for a stretch of time takes the whole experience to another level.

Espacio is the only hotel in Hawai’i to hold Forbes five-star ratings for both the hotel itself and its onsite restaurant, Mugen, along with the AAA five-diamond designation. Mugen is worth a visit even if you are not staying there, but as a guest you get a dining credit included in your stay along with a daily breakfast, which makes the whole package feel incredibly generous for what it is. The food and beverage program here is genuinely world-class.

Primary bedroom

This property is absolutely best suited for couples looking for a romantic and private escape, multigenerational family groups who want space and a residential feel, or anyone who simply wants to splurge on a truly once-in-a-lifetime Hawai’i stay. If your clients are the type who find big resort properties overwhelming or impersonal, Espacio is the answer. It delivers the full luxury of Waikiki with none of the noise, crowds, or anonymity that usually comes with it.

Bathroom

Need to know

The rooftop pool is reservable, but plan ahead for your stay. You can reserve the pool up to 24 hours in advance, so do not wait until the last minute. Get in the habit of booking it for the following day each morning so you always have your time locked in.

It is steps from the beach but feels removed from it. Kuhio Beach is right there, but inside Espacio you would never know you are in the middle of one of the most crowded tourist destinations in the world. That contrast is honestly one of the best parts of staying here.
