Curator’s statement
Memorable, rejuvenating, and welcoming. Every aspect of my stay at Chablé Yucatan was wonderful, from the stunning natural surroundings to the attentive and professional staff. The elegant casitas, each with their own private pool, hammock, and outside moon shower were the perfect haven for relaxation, and the cuisine was a true highlight—a delicious fusion of traditional Yucatecan flavors and modern flair. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough—it’s a true gem. It’s hard to imagine that such a curated and elevated experience could be found in a more secluded and serene setting. Every detail was meticulously maintained, every staff member was friendly and efficient, and every experience was effortless and enjoyable. Is it the best hotel in North America? I think so

Experience the ultimate luxury getaway at Chablé Yucatán, a 16th-century hacienda turned resort nestled in the picturesque town of Chocholá, Yucatán. Chablé Yucatán is a true oasis of relaxation and wellness, where you can disconnect from the world and connect with nature and yourself.
Location
Chablé Yucatán is located in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the municipality of Chocholá. A town about 45 minutes from the city of Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán, approximately 34 km from Mérida International Airport (MID) Nestled deep within the lush Yucatán jungle, Chablé Yucatán is a tranquil oasis where wellness and nature harmonize.

Check in
As soon as we arrived at the main imposing gates, we were welcomed by the gatehouse staff and directed through the resort to the main reception building. Here, we were met by the reception staff, our luggage whisked off to our casita.
Our private check-in was a delightful experience. We were greeted with a traditional drink and wet towels, setting the perfect tone for our stay. Then, we were shown the resort’s highlights in a golf cart, along the palm-lined pathways, to our cozy casita, Kuuts #15, where we could even create our own private oasis by closing off the property with a rope that doubled as a do not disturb sign.
Rooms
Each of the 41 casitas and villas is a private sanctuary, ranging from one-bedroom casitas to the magnificent three bedroom Royal Villa, complete with its own private outdoor 1,500-sq-ft pool, spacious terrace, kitchen, spa cabin, fitness room, and movie theater.
Near the entrance, there’s a parking spot for your bikes, making it easy to explore the property on two wheels. The paths are super flat and perfect for cycling, and as we climbed up to our private terrace, we were greeted by a heated pool, sun loungers, a big parasol, and an overwater hammock. On the other side, there’s a shaded seating area with a comfy outdoor sofa, a table, and chairs. It was our favorite spot—where we enjoyed our coffee, soaked up the sun, splashed in the pool, relaxed in the hammock in the afternoons, and listened to our Spotify playlist on the iPad.
As you open the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, you’ll be amazed by the spacious and beautifully designed casita. Natural stone walls, marble tiled flooring, and natural woods make it feel warm and inviting. We even got a unique gift made by local artisans—a henequen fiber bag, which turned out to be very useful, and a delicious welcome amenity—jicaletas, watermelon slices, lime, chamoy sauce, and chile piquin. The furniture is bold in natural colors and wood, and the high ceilings make the space feel even more spacious. Equipped with every modern convenience like a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle for tea, fast Wifi, complimentary minibar supplied daily with Coke/Diet Coke/coconut water/beer, and healthy snacks. The shower suite is stunning—it’s a walk-through and super comfortable. Step through double glass doors into a spacious and luxurious rain shower (one each) before entering an open-air wooden deck with a separate outdoor moon shower that my husband absolutely loved.

Service
I found the service at Chable Yucatan warm and well-intentioned. The staff conveys a sincere joy at welcoming guests to their corner of Mexico. There’s an enthusiasm around sharing the culture and cuisine of Yucatán, in particular, that’s palpable. On the plus side, Leonardo Morado, the General Manager, personally introduced himself and was frequently around making sure everything was OK.
The concierge and guest experience team, including Stefanie, David, and Samuel, were exceptionally helpful and attentive. Before our arrival, they contacted me and requested a form detailing our preferences for morning coffee and pastries, preferred drinks, food and snacks, activities, dining times, and any special occasion celebration. As a travel advisor, I’m always curious if this information is shared with all staff members, and I can confidently say that it was. For instance, I had mentioned that I would be celebrating my anniversary, and on that day, we were delighted with a delectable three-leches cake adorned with a lit candle during our breakfast at KIÓL.
I had an unexpected issue one day while lounging by the pool—my phone battery died, and it turned out my charger wasn’t working properly. As soon as a staff member learned of the problem, they sprang into action and managed to find a compatible charger. They even sent someone to my room to collect the necessary adapter. This level of attentiveness and dedication to guest satisfaction is what sets Chablé Yucatan apart—this is the kind of above-and-beyond service I look for when I send clients to properties.
Food and beverage
The culinary experience at Chablé Yucatan is a true highlight, with authentic Yucatecan gourmet cuisine crafted from fresh ingredients, many of which are harvested from the resort’s own Mayan gardens, or ka’anches.
Each morning, enjoy a personalized delivery, with your preferred coffee or tea, and freshly baked pastries, served at your preferred time. Start your day with a poolside breakfast at the poolside restaurant KIÓL. Our favorite hosts, Reyna and Paulino, were always attentive and friendly, sharing stories and insights about the dishes. Be sure to try the huevos encamisados, hibiscus flower enchiladas, and fried quesadillas with edam cheese and chaya. For lunch or dinner, don’t miss the buttered shrimp in guajillo chili and cochinita pibil, prepared in a traditional earth oven (pib) with an ancestral method that gives it a unique flavor and texture.

Breakfast like a queen at KI'OL
We had the pleasure of participating in a corn transformation workshop in the Casita Maya, where local women taught us how to prepare fresh tortillas and delicious quesadillas—it was a truly unique and memorable experience, and I highly recommend it!
For our second dinner, we made reservations at Ixi’im, the signature restaurant, located in a 19th-century henequen hacienda, for a unique culinary experience, with a menu crafted by renowned chefs Jorge Vallejo and Luis Ronzon, and an impressive display of 3,475 bottles of tequila. The restaurant’s ambiance, illuminated by fire and candlelight, is perfect for a romantic dinner.
The menu features three tasting menus, a children’s selection, starters, main courses, and desserts of the highest cuisine. Be sure to try the crab salbut with habanero mayonnaise and charred onion powder, it was simply delicious and don’t miss their signature cocktail, the Hacendado, consisting of lemon, ginger, chipotle syrup, and mezcal.
You can also visit the Sikar bar for an after-dinner stop to sample the finest selection of whiskey, cognac, brandy, and hand-made cigars; or if you are a sports fan, like my husband, you can watch your favorite team play on a huge TV screen on it’s lounge area.

Activities
I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of activities available at Chablé, Yucatan. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a fun and laid-back experience on a 9-hole pitch and putt course, guided by and instructor (complimentary equipment is provided). As a golf newbie, I found it was a bit challenging but incredibly enjoyable.
Pickleball, tennis, and exploring the interactive farm, “La Granja de Abu,” are other popular activities. Adults and children can learn about regenerative agriculture and participate in hands-on workshops and pony feeding at the farm. The melipona bee sanctuary is also worth a visit, as it works to preserve this sacred bee and its healing honey (season dependant). Nature lovers like me can admire the deer in their reserve, take a leisurely walk or bike ride through the nature paths, or simply relax and watch the fireflies light up the evening sky. When you’re ready to relax, unwind by the gorgeous main pool, the adults-only infinity spa pool, or in the comfort of your own private pool.

Wellness and spa
Chablé Yucatán’s spa is a unique and pioneering establishment, the first to be constructed around a cenote—a naturally formed underground pool characteristic of this Mexican region and revered by the Mayans (though not for swimming to preserve Mayan culture). Treatment cabins dot the cenote’s perimeter, and a yoga deck sits beside it for early-morning daily yoga or meditation sessions. Additionally, there’s a gym, a spin/fitness studio, a shop, a local handicrafts room, an infinity pool, and a seated deck with a breathtaking view of the cenote.

A tranquil cenote oasis, perfect for meditation or yoga
Before your treatment, you can indulge in the complimentary hydrotherapy circuit, guided by a personal attendant through a series of ancient Mayan rituals that alternate between heat and cold therapies. This circuit includes an herbal steam room, a dry sauna, and a sensory pool with hydromassage and temperature contrasts. Treatments commence with a shamanic ceremony in a Temazcal, a large conch shell-like structure, where your therapist explains the significance of the seven elements. Subsequently, you’ll be led to your treatment room, where you’ll be pampered with a nourishing foot bath and a meticulously crafted rice drink, designed to harmonize your mind, body, and soul—one of the most exceptional experiences I’ve had.
As a special treat, you can also participate in the Seeds of Life ceremony, a deeply spiritual experience where you can plant seeds of intention and connect with nature. During our stay, we celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary with this unforgettable ceremony, guided by a healer who invoked the ancestors and the universe. It was a truly moving experience, filled with peace, love, and joy, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and transformative experience.\

Sustainability program
I was impressed by Chablé Yucatan’s “Chablé Cares” program, focused on sustainability and community well-being. The hotel implements eco-friendly practices, operates a Melipona bee sanctuary, and protects mangrove ecosystems. They hire local staff and support regional artisans. The hotel’s sustainable cuisine is also notable, with over 55 species of fruits and vegetables grown in their Mayan gardens.
