An Elevated Jungle Escape: Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club
Curator’s statement

Tulum has evolved into a destination that blends wellness culture, contemporary design, and natural beauty. Secrets Tulum captures that evolution in a way that feels intentional rather than trendy. What makes this property particularly special to me is that it is currently the only true all-inclusive resort located within Tulum’s town, offering a seamless experience without sacrificing proximity to the energy and style of the destination. Instead of the typical beachfront mega-resort layout, Secrets Tulum leans into its jungle surroundings with a circular architectural design that feels immersive, intimate, and visually striking. The result is a property that delivers the ease of an all-inclusive with a boutique-inspired atmosphere, elevated dining, and a strong wellness component, making it especially meaningful for travelers who want comfort, privacy, and design-forward environments in one cohesive stay.

Where to stay in Tulum

I arrived at Secrets Tulum around 10 am and immediately felt the difference in the Preferred Club experience. Instead of checking in at the main desk, I was escorted to a private Preferred Club lounge where I was offered a mimosa and small bites while completing registration. The tone was unhurried and attentive. Although my room was not ready until shortly before 3 pm, I was encouraged to enjoy the restaurants and pools right away, which made the early arrival seamless.

Main pool

The resort layout is one of its strongest design features. The property is composed of four circular buildings surrounded by dense jungle vegetation. This architectural concept prevents the resort from ever feeling enclosed, even though it is not beachfront. The circular flow naturally guides you through different environments, the main pool, two canal-connected pools with a central swim-up bar. The quieter Preferred Club pool, a rooftop sky bar pool, and multiple smaller rooftop plunge pools. Even during peak midday hours, I never struggled to find a lounger. There is always space to relax, which is something many all-inclusives cannot claim.

Preferred Club Jr Suite Swim Out King Bed

I stayed in a Preferred Club King Swim-Out room, which I highly recommend. The room was spacious, with a comfortable king bed, desk, seating area, fully stocked minibar, and a large bathroom with ample counter space. The terrace opens directly into the swim-out pool and includes lounge chairs and a daybed. It felt private but not isolated. In-room details were well-maintained, and the housekeeping service was consistent and discreet.

Dining exceeded my expectations. My first meal was at The Grotto, the preferred club-exclusive restaurant. I ordered a beef filet with vegetables, and the quality was noticeably above standard all-inclusive fare. The bar selection here is also elevated, and I learned quickly that if you want a specific liquor brand, you should mention it, otherwise the default pour is the house option. Dinner at Jazmin, the Asian restaurant, was one of the best meals of the trip. We shared gyozas, kushiage, rock shrimp, and sushi before ordering almond-crusted fried chicken with a peanut curry sauce and sweet-and-sour pork. Everything was flavorful, well plated, and served at the right pace.

Bluewater Grill was another highlight, an open-air steakhouse set in the jungle with soft lighting that creates a dramatic nighttime atmosphere. I had French onion soup, ribeye with rosemary potatoes, and grilled octopus with mashed potatoes. For dessert, the server flambéed a chocolate lava cake with tequila tableside. It wasn’t just dinner. It was an experience.

Floating breakfast

One morning, I ordered a floating breakfast to my swim-out pool. It included poached eggs with hollandaise, chilaquiles with skirt steak, yogurt, fruit, juices, French toast, waffles, and coffee. It was visually impressive and genuinely filling, perfect for honeymoon or anniversary clients.

Although the resort is not directly on the beach, transportation runs every 30 minutes to the Secrets Beach Club in the Zamna area, about 15 minutes away. The beach club experience is very well-organized. As a Preferred Club guest, I had access to a designated section with reserved loungers. Service was attentive, and drinks, including piña coladas, were delivered promptly. Food options included casual fare like paella and hot dogs, along with restaurant service. I ordered fried fish tacos and cochinita pibil to build my own tacos, both of which were fresh and flavorful. The beach itself was calm during my visit, and the return shuttle was easy and punctual.

Scrub Bar

The spa experience deserves special recognition. It was one of the most personalized spa journeys I’ve had within the Secrets brand. I was guided through a ritual where I created my own body scrub using sea salt, coconut, flowers, herbs, and peach essence. The hydrotherapy circuit included sauna, steam room, mud application, cold therapy with ice, jacuzzi, and cold plunge. The experience concluded with a head, arm, and foot massage. The therapists were attentive, professional, and never rushed the process.

Swim out view

Overall, Secrets Tulum is best for couples and adults seeking a refined, calm experience. It is not a nightlife-heavy resort, and there are no restaurant reservations required, seating is assigned upon arrival, which makes the dining experience flexible. The property is approximately 45 minutes from Tulum International Airport and more than 1.5 hours from Cancún International Airport. While it does not sit on the beach, the circular architecture and sand-lined pool areas prevent it from ever feeling landlocked.

Need to know

  • Location and transfers: The hotel is located approximately 45 minutes from Tulum International Airport (TQO) and over 1.5 hours from Cancún International Airport (CUN), depending on traffic. I recommend arranging private transportation.

  • Not directly on the beach: The resort is not beachfront. However, the circular construction and open-air design prevent it from feeling enclosed. Multiple pools are surrounded by sand-lined areas, which soften the atmosphere and give a beach-inspired feel within the property.

  • Beach club access: Complimentary transportation runs every 30 minutes to the Secrets Beach Club in the Zamna area, about 15 minutes away. Preferred Club guests have a designated beach area with premium loungers. The shuttle is reliable and easy to use.

  • Preferred Club is worth it: I strongly recommend booking Preferred Club. Benefits include a private check-in lounge with welcome drinks, access to The Grotto restaurant, upgraded bar selections, dedicated pool areas, and enhanced beach club access. The overall experience feels noticeably more elevated.

  • Dining: No restaurant reservations are required. Seating is assigned upon arrival, which makes the dining flow flexible and relaxed. Wait times were reasonable even during peak dinner hours.

  • Alcohol selection: When ordering cocktails, always mention the specific liquor brand you prefer. Otherwise, bartenders will automatically serve the standard house selection.

  • Pool availability: One of the strongest operational aspects of this resort is availability. There were always loungers and shaded areas available at the pools, even midday. This is rare for all-inclusive properties and significantly improves the relaxation factor.

  • Room recommendation: Swim-out rooms offer added privacy and a resort-within-a-resort feeling. They are ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, or long weekend escapes.

  • Spa experience: The spa is one of the best within the Secrets portfolio. I recommend booking hydrotherapy in advance and allowing at least 90–120 minutes to fully enjoy the circuit and treatments.

  • Atmosphere: This is an adults-only property that leans more toward refined relaxation than high-energy nightlife. It is ideal for couples, milestone celebrations, and wellness-focused travelers.
