Tucked just a block off St. Charles Avenue in the Warehouse District of New Orleans, this stunning 1908 landmark has lived a thousand lives. Originally built as an annex to City Hall, the building was later transformed into Maison de la Luz hotel before its 2019 reimagining by the talented Pamela Shamshiri of Studio Shamshiri.
The grand history still whispers from the original marble floors and sweeping staircases, but the new design is a total dream! It sits perfectly in that sweet spot between a chic Parisian guesthouse and a soul-filled Southern B&B, all seen through a modern, curated lens that feels entirely its own.
A grand New Orleans welcome
The experience starts before you even step inside. The hotel is locked 24/7, giving it an exclusive, residential feel. Once you’re buzzed into the grand foyer, you’re greeted by twin staircases and local art that leads you into the heart of the house: the Living Room.

Foyer
This space is pure inspiration, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself taking notes for your own home décor. It’s layered with textures and pieces that reflect the cultures of New Orleans: French, Caribbean, West African, and Spanish influences all woven together.
It’s designed for slowing down:
Mornings: Gather for fresh coffee and hot tea.
Afternoons: Sip on sparkling lemonade or southern sweet tea.
Evenings: This is my favorite part. Wine, charcuterie, and cheese, followed by fresh-baked cookies put out nightly at 8 pm.
Pro tip: Look closely at the seating—there are outlets hidden within the furniture so you can work comfortably while soaking in the atmosphere.
Guest-only breakfast room

Breakfast room
Breakfast is served in a private, guest-only, sun-drenched blue room that feels like a classic French café. Look up when you walk in; the tented ceiling wallpaper is such a unique touch, and the walls are adorned with illustrations of native Louisiana flora.
If you book through a preferred travel advisor like us, we can secure Virtuoso or Prive perks. This means your breakfast is complimentary from 7–11:30 am (perfect for late sleepers!), and you’ll receive a $100 credit to use for in-room dining or cocktails at Salon Salon.
The best part? The kitchen never truly closes for you. Guests can order from the full menu for in-room dining 24/7, so if you miss the 11:30 am cutoff or just prefer a slow morning, you can have your favorites delivered to your door or even to the Living Room if you’d rather settle into a cozy nook downstairs.
The speakeasy magic of Salon Salon

Salon Salon
Speaking of Salon Salon, this cocktail lounge is a vibe. Originally the Louisiana State Bar Association library, the walls are still lined with books—creating an intimate, cozy atmosphere.
The menu is French-leaning with incredible small plates. If you’re here on a Monday, they offer half-price Champagne and caviar (a local favorite), and there’s live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The coolest detail? There’s a guest-only sanctuary tucked off the lounge. If you flip a discreet switch on the wall, a bartender appears through a window disguised as a framed piece of art to serve you. In the evening, with the candles lit and the lights dimmed, it’s pure magic!
The suites: Where to rest & retreat

Every room here feels incredibly thoughtful, but if you’re looking for the best in-house, here are my picks:
King Corner Grand Studio Suites: My personal favorite and easily the most sought-after keys in the house. Perched on the front corners of the building, these rooms wrap you in natural light with beautiful views overlooking Carondelet Street. They feel incredibly spacious and elegant. If you’re staying for a while or celebrating something special, this is the one.

King Corner Grand Studio Suite details
Premium King Rooms: Located on the back corners, these are loved for their soaking tubs positioned right by the windows. They are quiet, private, and very relaxing.
The bathrooms are finished in Italian marble, featuring handmade soaps and local oyster shells used as jewelry dishes, a beautiful nod to the city. If you’re traveling with family, they don’t have traditional connecting rooms, but they do offer private hallways that link two rooms together. It’s the perfect setup for strollers and privacy.

The little things that matter
Maison Métier excels at the details you actually notice. Such as:
Handwritten notes and local cookies upon arrival.
Turndown service with macarons or treats from Piety and Desire Chocolatiers.
Adjustable mattresses (you can request softer or firmer!).
Yoga mats, fitness equipment, refillable sparkling or still water, delicious snacks that won’t leave you feeling guilty, and self-care products available on request in room.
Pet-friendly? Absolutely. They don’t just allow dogs—they welcome them with beds and treats so your pup feels at home too!
Need a pool? You get full access to their sister property, The Barnett, right next door. You can use their rooftop pool, the 24-hour fitness center, or grab dinner at Brutto Americano (all of their contorni veggies are insanely delicious!).

Who is it for?
Maison Métier is a dream for couples, solo travelers, and design-loving families who crave a boutique experience with a true New Orleans soul. It’s for the traveler who values atmosphere and warmth over a bustling lobby scene.

Living room
Need to know
While Maison Métier is hard to leave, part of its charm is its location in the Warehouse District. Here are a few local spots you shouldn't miss.
Seaworthy: A moody, historic Creole cottage just steps away. It is the spot for wild-caught, sustainably harvested oysters and late-night cocktails.
All Good Café: Located next door at The Barnett. My go-to order is the iced chai latte with almond milk—it’s the best in the neighborhood!
Forbidden Pizza: Incredible New York-style slices. They are so obsessive about their ingredients and even blend five flours imported from Italy.
Bearcat (and Bearcat Baked): Famous for their "Good Cat" (high-protein/vegan) and "Bad Cat" (indulgent) menus. Both locations offer the same delicious variety.
The Arts District: You’re in the heart of Gallery Row. Take a slow stroll down Julia Street or spend an hour at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
