A Pet-Friendly Stay at Fairmont Vancouver Airport
Curator’s statement

Staying at the right airport hotel before an early-morning flight is critical to set the tone for your entire travel day. The right airport hotel removes transfers, buffers delays, and simplifies your morning entirely. When you’re traveling with a pet, those details matter even more. The Fairmont Vancouver Airport, located directly above US departures at YVR, is my favorite airport hotel and one I book without hesitation. Staying here with Leia for the first time exceeded my expectations, from the soundproof rooms to the genuinely thoughtful service.

Our stay at a glance

  • Room type: Deluxe King, 13th floor

  • Purpose: Overnight stay before a 7 am transborder flight

  • Traveled with: My dachshund, Leia

From check-in onward, everything felt intentional and easy. We were welcomed with a VIP-style amenity of delicious snacks, which immediately made our stay feel special rather than a typical airport hotel experience.

Why this stay works so well with a pet

Traveling with a pet often means compromising for convenience. That is never the case while staying at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport.

Our Deluxe King room was high up on the 13th floor, runway-facing, and intentionally placed far from the elevators, exactly as requested. Despite floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking active runways, the room was completely soundproof. Leia spent her first hour after checking in happily plane spotting.

When the pet amenities for Leia were delivered, she immediately settled onto the cozy dog bed. That alone told me everything I needed to know about how comfortable she felt.

Dining together without compromise

Due to local health regulations, pets are not allowed to dine in the Globe@YVR. With in-room dining as an option, Leia and I were able to eat dinner together without needing to leave the guest room.

The pet menu deserves real praise. Leia was thrilled to eat the steamed salmon with basmati rice, sweet potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Both of our meals were well-prepared and delicious. It’s one of those details that shows the property genuinely considers pets as guests.

Time savings before departure

After a restful night in our guest room, we were ready for a long travel day to the east coast. Because the property is located directly above the US departures check-in counters, we were able to enjoy a relaxed, unrushed morning together.

When you’re traveling with a pet, not having to coordinate an early airport transfer or rush through check-in makes a noticeable difference. Having enough time to use the pet relief area calmly, without watching the clock, completely changes the tone of the morning.

Leia is typically grumpy and reactive on travel days, especially during early-morning departures. Being well-rested and starting the day without stress made a visible difference. She handled the morning better than ever, which made the entire departure smoother for both of us.

Welcome amenity from the kind team

Need to know

  • Pet policy: Pets of any size are welcome for $50 per night, with a maximum of two pets per room.

  • Local wildlife: There is a long-standing rabbit colony along the walking paths outside the hotel. Keep dogs leashed, especially if they have a strong prey drive.

  • Pet dining perk: Meals from the pet menu are eligible toward the $100 property credit when booking through me or another Fora advisor.

When you book through me, I notify the reservations team in advance so pet amenities are prepared for your arrival. I also recommend reviewing the hotel’s pet policy page for the most up-to-date information and to preview the pet menu options.
