Curator’s statement
New York City will always be a part of our story. Having once lived on the Upper West Side, this part of Manhattan holds a special kind of magic for us, with quieter streets lined with brownstones, the smell of coffee drifting from corner cafés, and Central Park just steps away. Returning to this neighborhood always feels like revisiting an old friend: familiar, beautiful, and endlessly inspiring. NYC has an energy like no other, and this trip reminded us that even a quick visit can recharge the soul and reignite your love for the city—without breaking the bank.

Our quick getaway to New York City was the perfect mix of nostalgia and new discoveries. We chose to stay at Hotel Belleclaire, a boutique property in the heart of the Upper West Side, one of Manhattan’s most charming and livable neighborhoods, which we once called home. The location couldn’t be better, with just a short stroll to both Central Park and Riverside Park, and easy subway access on the 1, 2, 3 lines, connecting you to Midtown landmarks and Downtown highlights in minutes.

The Hotel Belleclaire combines modern comfort with classic NYC charm. The recently renovated lobby and Allure Cocktail Lounge add a touch of luxury, while the attached Mille-Feuille Bakery offers delicious French pastries and coffee each morning, a delightful convenience when you’re eager to start exploring. We stayed in a Premium King Room for under $500 per night, which felt surprisingly spacious by NYC standards. It featured a cozy sitting area, a desk window nook, and comfortable bedding, perfect after long days of walking the city.

Beautiful brownstones throughout the Upper West Side
Our days were filled with old favorites and new discoveries. We revisited Zabar’s, the classic Upper West Side gourmet market that’s a local institution. There's so much to see, smell, and eat here! We stopped by Orwashers Bakery, known for its artisanal breads and pastries. For our favorite pizza and Chinese food, we stopped by Patty’s Pizza and Ollie’s. They both hit the spot, offering classic New York street food in comfortable surroundings. Between meals, we strolled through Central Park, taking in fall colors and street musicians. We also saw our old apartment, wandering over to Riverside Park for views of the Hudson River and a slower, more local vibe.

Evenings were reserved for the quintessential NYC experiences. One highlight was catching Harry Potter and The Cursed Child on Broadway, a magical production that’s worth every minute. Before the show, we grabbed dinner at Los Tacos #1 near Times Square. It’s simple, fast, and absolutely delicious, no matter which personal favorite you choose.

In just 48 hours, we managed to see so much of the city we love—proof that with the right planning and a well-located hotel, a quick NYC escape can feel both full and rejuvenating.

Need to know
Getting around: Cabs from JFK and LaGuardia offer set fares that can often be cheaper than rideshares. The 1, 2, 3 subway lines make the Upper West Side an ideal home base for exploring many favorite parts of Manhattan.
Walkability: Pack your most comfortable shoes. New York is best experienced on foot. The mix of parks, brownstone streets, and city buzz makes it endlessly walkable.
Best for: Really, anyone can enjoy what NYC has to offer! Couples seeking a romantic weekend, families with older kids, or anyone looking for a slower-paced, neighborhood experience that still puts you close to all the action.
Local tips: Start your day early to beat museum crowds and grab a quick breakfast from your favorite spot or one of ours. Make time for a quiet moment in Riverside Park. It’s one of the most underrated spots in Manhattan. But of course, don't miss Central Park!
