The Dean Galway is a beautiful and modern hotel located just a 5-minute walk from Eyre Square. It served as our base for our adventure in Galway this past November.

The hotel concierges were great and courteous and we had great interactions with all the staff members we met.

The hotel

The Dean Galway offers guests a great gym, sauna, pool — the gym feels very modern and clean. Hotel guests have complimentary access during their stay. Fitness classes are available at an additional cost and I believe can be booked in advance.

The Sophie Bar and Restaurant on the top floor is a gorgeous space — food and service were good and the views were nice on a clear night. Highly recommend for clients who want a nice night cap or first dinner after arrival.

The room

During our stay at The Dean Galway, we stayed in the ModPod room (lowest tier). Definitely a little snug as there was not really any space to unpack, but luckily we weren’t there for too long. Outside the closet space, we didn’t mind the coziness of the room. Temperature regulation in the rooms is a bit tough even with the thermostat. It felt super warm under the blankets and was easily overheated. Might be worth asking if they have a thinner blanket.

If you’re booking for clients, I highly recommend requesting a quieter room as the noise from the rooftop bar and hallways could be heard in our room. During our stay there were two weddings and a Christmas party or two, so there was a lot of noise. The hotel’s sound proofing wasn’t the best, so be sure to secure a quieter room for clients if that’s what they’re looking for.

House-keeping was neat and timely, but be sure to request daily refills of the still water or else they won’t do it for you automatically. Double check amenities available at the hotel and take note that there is no body lotion or toothpaste available so be sure to bring your own.

Location

The Dean Galway hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes away from Eyre Square. There’s a pharmacy on the same block and a few convenience stores just a bit further for any last-minute or late-night needs. Great place to stay for nearby adventures to the Cliffs of Moher and Falconry at the Ashford Hotel.

Last impressions

Overall, I would recommend The Dean Galway hotel. We enjoyed our stay and with the right expectations, we’d stay here again the next time we’re in town. Highly recommend for clients who want the gym and pool — we were pleasantly surprised as most hotels in Ireland don’t have a gym, much less a well-equipped one.
