Curator’s statement
Baja Club Hotel feels like a stylish hideaway where history and modern design blend seamlessly. Once a restored colonial villa, it now stands as a chic boutique property right on La Paz’s malecón. With just 32 rooms, the vibe is intimate yet lively—perfect for couples, friends, or groups looking for understated luxury in Baja California Sur. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, sip a mezcal on the rooftop, and watch the Sea of Cortez shift colors as the day winds down.

Part of Mexico’s GROUPO HABITA, Baja Club offers just 32 rooms, each designed with clean lines, earthy tones, and thoughtful details that blend into the villa’s original architecture. The property feels social but never overrun—whether you’re reclining poolside with a cocktail, savoring a Mediterranean-Mexican meal al fresco, or retreating to your private balcony.
I stayed in a Balcony Room, which combines indoor-outdoor living with views of the central patio. I also toured a Garden Room, which is more tucked away and private, and both a Junior Suite and a Terrace Suite, which offer a bit more space and design accents for those wanting to spread out. With only three suites in total and three rooms with double beds, inventory is limited—but that also means each stay feels curated.

The hotel is pet-friendly, LGBTQ+ friendly, and welcomes children six and older. While not “adults-only,” the atmosphere is decidedly grown-up. Most guests are couples, though the property can also be taken over entirely for weddings, milestone birthdays, or family gatherings.

Highlights:
Pool: The centerpiece of the courtyard, framed by bougainvillea and restored villa walls. It’s chic and compact, with cushioned loungers and shaded spots that keep the vibe relaxed and semi-private.

The pool has free loungers and bar service
Rooftop bar: A signature feature. At golden hour, it offers sweeping views over the Sea of Cortez and La Paz skyline. Cocktails lean mezcal- and tequila-forward, and the atmosphere is buzzy but never overwhelming.
Restaurant & breakfast: The open-air dining room serves a Mediterranean-Mexican menu featuring fresh seafood, housemade breads, and seasonal produce. Breakfast is included for all guests (choice of one entrée & one drink per person). Mornings are serene and relaxed—evenings attract both guests and stylish locals.

The rooftop is the best place to catch the sunset with a margarita
Spa: A small but thoughtful wellness space offering locally inspired treatments—ideal after a day on the water.
Design: A balance of old-world character and modern minimalism. Natural woods, neutral tones, and tiled accents nod to the villa’s origins while keeping the overall look fresh.
Location: Right on La Paz’s malecón—walking distance to shops, cafés, and the waterfront promenade.
Event-friendly: With just 32 rooms, the property is a sweet spot for buyouts, creating the feel of a private villa by the sea.
