An Insider Look Into Solaz Resort & Spa, Los Cabos
Curator’s statement

This resort was like a piece of fine art. It is well curated, minimally designed, and all intentional. Solaz was all that and more for me; most importantly, it changed my view on all-inclusive travel forever.

Solaz is a 33-acre architectural masterpiece that blends Baja desert with the Sea of Cortez. You’ve got five pools, fire pits, hammock chairs overlooking the water, and a spa that feels like it was built for serious decompressing.

Easily one of the most stunning lobby areas I've stepped foot in. It's open, airy, and inviting, all at the same time.

The rooms are sleek and modern—some even have private patios and plunge pools. And the food is absolutely astounding, from farm-to-table seafood to hearty Baja flavors, and even a chocolate masterclass. I love that it is open dining (meaning outside guests can come and enjoy). I think this creates healthy competition for the restaurants all throughout Cabo, as it makes every dining reservation fair game! The Italian restaurant on site was one of my favorites (especially the tableside tiramisu made by the chef himself).

These were the Mako burgers available at the onsite restaurant, Mako. HIGHLY recommend!

Who is this property for? People who want a design-led, serene escape—luxe art, minimal crowds, and an intentional, modern vibe. I would also say travelers who don’t need a super swimmable beach, because the pools are the real show here. I would suggest this for honeymooners, large groups, families, and especially for my solocationers who need to unplug and relax.

Sunsets and sunrises here are unreal! I don't know which one I like more.

Need to know

  • While the daily breakfast buffet at Cascabel is not bountiful or expansive, I love the options and the simplicity and quality of the food.

  • All restaurants are open to the public in Cabo; take advantage of that! Some folks do say the food can be pricey, and I would agree.

  • Fresko is a grocery store five minutes away. Great if you want to have snacks or have small kids who are picky with food.

  • While on the subject, airport transfers are not included, but I got the hookup for the best one with Vivo Lux. They are family owned and operated, truly care about the destination, and truly are the best in the area!

  • You will be doing a lot of uphill walking from the room to the pool and back. Wear flat comfortable shoes or get a golf cart.

  • If you're lucky, you may see whales from your room depending on the time of year. October was an amazing time of the year to visit, but whale watching season is January to March.

  • Don’t get talked into the high-pressure timeshare presentation.

  • Pack layered clothing if you are going in January. It can get breezy towards late afternoon and evening.

  • You can arrange for a museum tour with your butler.

  • The resort is not adults only but there are adults-only areas. The children here were kind of quiet or I didn’t really notice them.

  • The kids' club is not included but they do have a Friday night at the museum for kids where they show a movie and you can even spend the night in the museum.

  • They do a lot of weddings and events which can close down pools and restaurants. Talk to your travel advisor about events before you book.

  • The spa is amazing.

  • I would advise against booking plunge pools—I enjoyed the one-bedroom suite with the hot tub on the balcony much more.
