When planning a trip to Marrakech, it is important to consider factors such as weather (it can get HOT), holiday seasons (can get very crowded during school holidays), flights (some destinations only offer seasonal flights), and budget. If you are looking for a relaxing trip with ideal weather, then January is the best month to visit Marrakech.

I have personally visited Morocco three times - once in June and twice in January. January was much more enjoyable than June. January in Morocco is SO lovely - hence why I returned!

On our most recent visit to Marrakech (January 2024) we stayed at the Fairmont Royal Palm in Marrakech. We received the following perks: room upgrade, spa credit (couple’s massage), and the third night free. The Fairmont has a gorgeous pool (we were even able to swim!), delicious on-site dining, a kids club (that offers cooking classes), a farm, a golf course (with views of the Atlas mountains), a lovely spa, tennis courts. Rooms are some of the largest I have seen in awhile - each includes a terrace or patio. We were able to take advantage of all amenities in January - and thoroughly enjoy them.

In January, you are likely to find sunny skies, comfortable temperature and smaller crowds in Marrakech. We visited the souks and never felt uncomfortable due to crowds or heat. If you are looking to escape the cold of Europe or North America, then you will be pleasantly surprised by Marrakech.

Why Marrakech in January is an ideal destination for all types of travelers:

Couples - You will be able to leisurely stroll through the souks and enjoy colorful sites plus fun shopping. You can stop at a rooftop cafe for a glass of tea. Then you can relax at your hotel with a cocktail and watch the gorgeous sunset.

Families - We visited with our toddler and had a blast! We found the Fairmont to be extremely kid-friendly and noticed several other families taking advantage of the pool and kids club. Our son was even able to have his first golf “lesson.” We were able to drop him off at the kids club and enjoy a couple’s massage, then sit by the pool for lunch with a glass of wine. Due to the reasonable temperatures in January, kids absolutely loved being outside in fresh air.

Active Vacation - There are countless opportunities for travelers looking for activities. From lifestyle sports (ex: golf, tennis, swimming) to daring adventures (ex: hiking, ATV riding, camel treks, hot air balloon rides, etc). The sky is the limit on activities and excursions in and near Marrakech!

Wellness Vacation - If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, then Marrakech in January will be perfect! You can enjoy spas, naps under a tree on a sunny day, delicious teas, excellent cuisine full of fresh ingredients, and relaxing strolls through gardens.

Multigenerational Travel - Resorts in Marrakech offer something for everyone. The entire family will feel relaxed in reasonable temperatures while learning about a new culture. Family is very important in Morocco, and your family will love it!

Solo Travelers - Marrakech is a vibrant city with travelers from around the world. Hire a guide or join various tours to explore all that there is to offer!

Still not convinced? Take a peek at the photos - all were taken in January 2024!

Need to Know

If you are looking to plan a trip during the month of January - Marrakech should be on the top of your list! If you are looking for the best month to visit Marrakech - then go ahead and pencil a trip in January into your calendar now!
Marrakech is a fabulous destination for all types of travelers - no matter your style, you are sure to find something you are looking for.

I recommend hiring a guide on your first visit to the souks to help you learn the way and avoid getting lost. If traveling with young kids - it is easier to visit in the mornings when the crowds are smaller. I recommend taking a stroller or carrier for small children for safety.
Do not drink the water or brush your teeth with water from the faucet. Be sure to drink from bottled water or water provided by hotels.
