Fabulous Cruise Excursion: Tequila & Mezcal Experience in Ensenada, Mexico
Curator’s statement

In February 2025, I discovered a unique and highly enjoyable tour while cruising the Mexican Riviera aboard the Carnival Firenze. The tequila & mezcal history and tasting experience at the Cuatro Cuatros eco-friendly resort located in the hills behind Ensenada was one of the best cruise-booked adventures I've had. I would take friends on this excursion without hesitation and definitely recommend it to clients.

Recently I cruised the Mexican Riviera aboard the beautiful Carnival Firenze with stops in Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada. Cabo is always a blast, but I was particularly excited to find a really unique and enjoyable half-day excursion in Ensenada. The tour took a small group of guests along the coast and up into the hills behind the city to an eco-friendly area called Cuatro Cuatros. The area features a hotel, glamping cabins and a vineyard — but what we were there for was a tequila & mezcal tasting experience.

Tasting Room Ship; Tasting Room

In the natural setting of a reclaimed wooden fishing boat nestled in the hills, our outstanding host educated us on how tequila and mezcal are produced, the cultural history of the products and their importance to various regions of Mexico. The highlight was sampling a variety of the spirits, accompanied by unique Mexican tasting plates. If that wasn't enough, we were treated to delicious margaritas and home-made snacks, and local foods like fish tacos were available as well. This meal took place in a beautiful speakeasy-type den, which featured natural woods and many tequila and mezcal bottles from the past. I highly recommend this tour if you have cruisers with a port call in Ensenada looking for something relaxing and culturally interesting. It is also away from the busy port and of course, the delicious drinks certainly were a plus!
