Where to stay in Los Angeles

If you're planning a dog-friendly weekend in Los Angeles, you’ll be spoiled for choice with welcoming hotels, spacious parks and lively neighborhoods that are easy to explore with a pup in tow.

We stayed at The LINE Hotel in Koreatown — a hip, design-forward property with a warm and welcoming vibe. From the moment we arrived, we felt like Gino was just as much a guest as we were. There’s no pet fee, and the staff was always happy to see him. Each morning, we grabbed coffee from Alfred (just off the lobby) and hung out in the communal lounge area, where Gino could stretch out on the rug while we planned our day. The location in K-Town is also super central, with quick access to the Westside, Downtown and Hollywood.

Other standout hotels for travelers with dogs include:

  • Kimpton Hotel Wilshire – A boutique option near Miracle Mile with a rooftop pool and classic Kimpton pet-friendliness (no size limit, no pet fee and they often provide beds, bowls and treats).

  • Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills – Right across from the Beverly Center, this modern hotel is a good pick for travelers who want to be close to upscale shopping, dining and some green space. Pets up to 30 pounds are welcome, and they offer special pet amenities.

As for what to do? We built our itinerary around pet-friendly outdoor spaces and easygoing city strolls. The Grove is a must — an open-air shopping and dining area where dogs are welcome throughout the complex (though not inside every store). Nearby, Pan Pacific Park offers shaded trails, grassy lawns and a chill environment to take a breather. Century City Mall (Westfield) is another great stop for a walkable retail experience — many of the restaurants and cafés have outdoor seating where dogs can relax by your side.

A few more ways to enjoy the city with your pup:

  • Santa Monica – Head to the beach path early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and heat. While dogs aren’t allowed directly on the beach, the walkways are scenic and refreshing. Tongva Park and Palisades Park both offer green space and coastal views.

  • Runyon Canyon – If your dog’s up for it, this is a favorite for locals. It can get crowded, so go early in the day and stick to shaded trails.

  • Venice Canals – A quieter stroll through a charming, unexpected slice of LA. Great for photo ops and a slow-paced afternoon.

  • Melrose Avenue – Stop by cafés and shops with outdoor patios (check ahead for dog policies), and swing by iconic street art spots for a photo session.

  • Silver Lake Reservoir Walking Path – A scenic loop with plenty of shade, water fountains and other dog-walkers. Bonus: there’s an off-leash dog park nearby if your pup needs a little free run time.

Whether you’re in LA for the art, the food, the shopping or just to unwind, bringing your dog along doesn’t have to mean compromising your experience. In fact, it adds a whole new layer of fun — and we found that people were often friendlier and chattier when we had Gino in tow!

Tips for traveling with your dog in LA

  • Pack the essentials: A collapsible water bowl, treats, poop bags and plenty of water are a must — especially in warmer weather.

  • Create a home away from home: We brought Gino’s bed and a few toys, which helped him settle in easily at the hotel.

  • Paw safety: Sidewalks can get hot, especially in the afternoon. Try to plan outdoor walks and activities in the morning or late afternoon.

  • Call ahead: Even if a restaurant or shop looks dog-friendly, it’s worth confirming their current pet policy.

  • Use green spaces wisely: LA has great dog parks and walkable areas, but always check leash rules and opening hours.

Where to eat (with your pup)

While there are tons of dog-friendly patios in LA, these are a few personal favorites where you and your four-legged friend will feel right at home:

  • Her Thai (Koreatown) – A cozy spot with big flavor and a laid-back patio that’s perfect for dining with your pup. Friendly staff and consistently great food.

  • Neighborhood (West Adams) – This all-day café serves vegan pastries and solid coffee, with a welcoming outdoor area and a dog-friendly indoor policy.

  • The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker (West Hollywood) – A great option for brunch or lunch with a stylish patio and attentive service for dogs.

  • Home Restaurant (Los Feliz) – Known for hearty dishes and one of the most dog-friendly patios in LA. Expect plenty of shade, space and smiles from fellow dog lovers.

  • Republique (Mid-City) – An upscale choice with a limited but lovely outdoor area. Perfect for a treat-yourself brunch — just note that it gets very busy on weekends, so come early or try a weekday visit.

  • Malibu Farm (Malibu Pier) – Worth the drive if you want ocean views and California-style dining. The fresh food and coastal breeze make this one a favorite for both humans and hounds.
