Why InterContinental Miami Is Earning a Place on My Short List for Pre-Cruise & Pre-Flight Stays
Curator’s statement

As a longtime Hilton loyalist, I don't often find myself rethinking where I stay. However, a recent overnight stay at InterContinental Miami before an international trip reminded me why it's important to evaluate properties on their own merits rather than defaulting to a particular brand. Between the location, service, elite recognition, and overall guest experience, the hotel delivered a level of value that has earned it a place on my short list for future pre-cruise and pre-flight stays in South Florida.

My wife and I recently spent one night at InterContinental Miami before departing on an international trip, and the experience exceeded expectations. While the stay was brief, it highlighted many of the qualities that make a hotel worth recommending to clients. From arrival to departure, the property delivered a polished and efficient experience that felt well-suited to travelers looking to maximize a short stay in Miami.

One of the biggest strengths of the hotel is its location. Situated in Downtown Miami, the property offers easy access to PortMiami, Miami International Airport, and many of the city's most recognizable waterfront attractions. Although Bayfront Park was closed during our visit due to preparations for the FIFA World Cup Fan Fest, we still enjoyed exploring the surrounding area on foot. The hotel places guests within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and Biscayne Bay, making it easy to enjoy a taste of Miami without committing to the higher costs and traffic often associated with South Beach.

The property also delivered where it mattered most: comfort, service, and value. We stayed in an Ocean View room that provided sweeping views of Biscayne Bay, the Miami skyline, and even PortMiami. As frequent cruisers, there was something undeniably fun about watching ships in port and seeing the cruise terminals from our room. It's a small detail, but one that helps create a sense of anticipation for travelers beginning or ending a cruise vacation.

The hotel honored a late checkout request, allowing us to enjoy a relaxed departure day before our flight, and we were able to maximize our stay through preferred partner amenities including complimentary breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, and a room upgrade. With a nightly rate of just over $200, the overall value proposition was surprisingly strong and one of the biggest reasons this stay stood out. In a market where luxury hotel rates can quickly climb, InterContinental Miami delivered an upscale experience that felt like a particularly good value.

One of the biggest surprises was the food. Room service was genuinely excellent and far better than what I typically expect from a large convention-style hotel. After a day of travel, being able to enjoy a quality meal in the room while overlooking the bay was a great way to start the trip. Breakfast the following morning was equally enjoyable and provided an easy start to our departure day.

Operationally, the hotel was impressive. Valet parking was expensive, as is common throughout Downtown Miami, but the service itself was efficient and well organized. The staff consistently created a smooth experience, which is exactly what I value when staying somewhere for a single night before a major travel day.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this stay is what it says about the broader IHG luxury portfolio. While Hilton remains my primary hotel brand, InterContinental Miami demonstrated that IHG continues to raise the bar in meaningful ways. The combination of location, service, amenities, and overall guest experience has moved this property firmly onto my recommendation list for travelers seeking a convenient and comfortable pre-cruise or pre-flight stay.

For travelers looking for an upscale Miami hotel that balances accessibility, comfort, and waterfront location, InterContinental Miami deserves consideration. It certainly earned mine.
