Inspired by the grand Victorian seaside resorts of the late 1800s, the property combines refined elegance with subtle Disney storytelling, creating an atmosphere that appeals to families, couples, and guests seeking a more sophisticated Disney vacation. Throughout my stay, what stood out most was how Disney's magic was woven into the details rather than being front and center. In my room, for example, a beautiful piece of artwork paid tribute to Mary Poppins, a nod that Disney fans will appreciate without overwhelming the resort's luxurious aesthetic.

One aspect of the Grand Floridian that impressed me immediately was how easy it was to begin enjoying Walt Disney World before our room was ready. On check-in day, Bell Services held our luggage at no additional charge, allowing us to start exploring the resort and surrounding Disney property right away. Before heading to Disney Springs, we took a leisurely ride on the Resort Monorail loop from the station located on the second floor of the resort. This turned out to be a great introduction to the area, especially for first-time visitors. The route travels through Magic Kingdom, Disney's Contemporary Resort, the Transportation and Ticket Center (where guests transfer to the EPCOT monorail), Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, and back to the Grand Floridian. Since crowds were light during our visit, the entire loop took only about 20 minutes and gave us a wonderful overview of the Magic Kingdom resort area.

After our monorail tour, we returned to the first floor and boarded Disney's complimentary bus transportation to Disney Springs. The ride took approximately 45 minutes. One tip I would offer future visitors is to carry a rain jacket or umbrella even if the forecast looks favorable. During our visit, an unexpected Florida downpour arrived with little warning. Another helpful tip is to pay attention to which bus stop you are dropped off at in Disney Springs. There are multiple transportation areas, and returning to the correct stop can save time and confusion when heading back to the resort.

Location is one of the Grand Floridian's greatest strengths. Guests enjoy convenient access to Magic Kingdom via monorail, boat launch, bus transportation, or a scenic walking path that takes approximately 15 minutes. The resort's position on Seven Seas Lagoon provides spectacular views across the water toward Magic Kingdom and creates some of the most memorable experiences available at Walt Disney World.

Accommodation

During my stay, I was fortunate to have a Seven Seas Lagoon view room, and I genuinely believe the additional cost is worth the investment. From my second-floor balcony, I enjoyed stunning nighttime views of Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Disney's Contemporary Resort. After long days in the parks, my family and I looked forward to returning to our room, changing into comfortable pajamas, enjoying snacks on the balcony, and experiencing Disney's nighttime entertainment without fighting crowds or waiting for transportation.

Our room was located on the second floor of Boca Chica, a guest building situated behind the Courtyard Pool and directly across from the main lobby building. While the location required a bit more walking than rooms located near the lobby, it quickly became one of my favorite aspects of the stay. The pathway to Boca Chica circles around the Courtyard Pool and the large lawn used for Movies Under the Stars, so there is no direct route through the center of the resort. As a result, the walk to the main building, monorail station, and dining locations typically took a few extra minutes.

The walk to Gasparilla Island Grill averaged about five to seven minutes, which we found very manageable considering how frequently we visited for breakfast, snacks, and drinks throughout our stay. Guests who prioritize immediate access to the monorail may prefer a room closer to the main building, as the monorail station is located on the second floor of the resort's main lobby building. However, what Boca Chica lacks in convenience, it more than makes up for in tranquility.

One of the biggest advantages of this location was the peaceful atmosphere. Despite ongoing refurbishment work in the main building during our visit, we never heard construction noise from our room. After spending full days surrounded by the excitement and crowds of the theme parks, returning to a quiet building overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon felt incredibly relaxing. The combination of beautiful views, minimal noise, and a slightly more secluded setting made the room feel less like a hotel room and more like a retreat.

For families seeking a quieter stay while still remaining within easy walking distance of the resort's amenities, I would not hesitate to recommend Boca Chica. The extra few minutes of walking each day felt like a small tradeoff for the serenity, views, and overall sense of escape the building provided.

Every evening at 9 p.m., the Electrical Water Pageant glided across Seven Seas Lagoon. What surprised me most was how clearly the music could be heard from my balcony. As the 14 illuminated floats traveled across the water, the light displays changed to match the music being played. The soundtrack featured Disney favorites such as "Poor Unfortunate Souls," the crocodile theme from Peter Pan, and King Triton's theme, along with classics like "Walk the Dinosaur." The parade concludes with a patriotic finale as the floating displays transform into red, white, and blue patterns synchronized to patriotic music. Watching the colorful floats pass by with Magic Kingdom beautifully illuminated in the background quickly became one of my favorite nightly traditions. On one evening, I even spotted a resort launch boat positioned in the lagoon with guests enjoying a close-up view of the parade from the water.

Around 10 p.m. each night, Magic Kingdom's fireworks became visible from the resort. Disney pipes synchronized music throughout select areas of the property, creating an immersive viewing experience that feels remarkably close to being inside the park. Watching the fireworks reflect across Seven Seas Lagoon while listening to the soundtrack from the comfort of my balcony was one of the most memorable moments of the trip. For families with young children, multigenerational groups, or anyone who appreciates a more relaxed pace, these views transform the room from simply a place to sleep into an attraction of its own.

Dining

Dining is a major highlight of the Grand Floridian. The resort is home to Victoria & Albert's, Disney's premier fine dining restaurant and the first Disney-owned restaurant to earn a Michelin Star, in addition to holding the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award. Guests can also enjoy the waterfront seafood restaurant Narcoossee's, the beautifully reimagined Cítricos inspired by Mary Poppins Returns, character dining at 1900 Park Fare, and the convenient Gasparilla Island Grill.

Gasparilla Island Grill quickly became one of our most visited locations during the trip. Its convenient location and extended operating hours made it an easy choice for breakfast and snacks throughout our stay. My favorite item was the Mickey Waffle breakfast platter, which includes Mickey-shaped waffles, eggs, and bacon. A useful tip for families is that the bacon can be substituted for tater tots, which was a big hit with my children. We found ourselves returning several mornings because it was a reliable and satisfying way to start our park days.

One of Gasparilla Island Grill's hidden gems is the outdoor seating area located directly in front of the restaurant. This waterfront location overlooks Seven Seas Lagoon and the nearby boat dock. During the evening, I noticed many guests gathering here to watch Magic Kingdom's fireworks. The synchronized music can be heard clearly, making it an excellent viewing location for guests who do not have a lagoon-view room. It offers many of the same benefits as a premium-view room while still providing easy access to snacks, drinks, and quick-service dining.

One of the experiences I was most looking forward to was the Garden View Lounge Tea Experience. As a resort guest, I was eligible to book before non-resort guests, but unfortunately reservations were unavailable during my stay. While I was unable to participate, I did have the opportunity to peek inside the lounge and watch guests enjoying the experience. Many were dressed in elegant tea attire, adding to the Victorian charm of the setting. From what I observed, it appeared to be one of the most unique and sophisticated experiences available at Walt Disney World, and I would prioritize booking it on a future visit. Reservations can be difficult to secure, particularly during busy travel periods, making advance planning essential.

Resort amenities & shopping

Families will find plenty to enjoy beyond the parks. The resort features two distinct pool areas: the Beach Pool, which includes a waterslide and the Alice in Wonderland–themed aquatic play area and splash pad, and the quieter Courtyard Pool, perfect for relaxation. While my family did not have the opportunity to use the splash pad or pools extensively, both areas appeared extremely popular throughout our stay and were consistently busy with guests.

On our arrival day, we spent some time relaxing in a shaded seating area near the Courtyard Pool, which provided a peaceful way to unwind after traveling. Poolside dining options were somewhat limited, but we enjoyed a chicken Caesar salad served in a convenient grab-and-go container along with a refreshing strawberry colada. The quieter atmosphere around the Courtyard Pool made it feel more like a luxury resort than a theme park hotel. Evening Movies Under the Stars are offered on select nights, adding another family-friendly activity to the resort experience. During my stay, I did not encounter any Disney characters at the resort itself, reinforcing the Grand Floridian's more refined and understated atmosphere.

Shopping and pin trading enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy throughout the Grand Floridian. The resort's shops are spread across both the first and second floors of the main building, making them easy to explore between meals or while taking a break from the parks. Mouse Mercantile, located on the second floor near the monorail station, offers a variety of Disney merchandise, apparel, resort-themed souvenirs, and seasonal items. On the first floor, Sandy Cove Gifts and Sundries serves as the resort's convenience shop, carrying snacks, beverages, essentials, and additional Disney merchandise.

As a Disney pin trader, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of pin trading opportunities available throughout the resort. During my stay, I found pin boards at the front desk check-in area, Mouse Mercantile, Sandy Cove Gifts and Sundries, Gasparilla Island Grill, and the Disney Vacation Club desk. The cast members at Sandy Cove Gifts and Sundries were particularly fun to interact with, as several wore crossbody bags filled with pins available for trading. One thing I noticed throughout the weekend was how quickly the inventory changed. On the first day, the selection was outstanding, with several boards filled with unique and harder-to-find pins. By the end of the weekend, many of the most desirable pins had already been traded away, and the selection had noticeably dwindled. For serious pin traders, I would recommend checking the boards early in your stay and revisiting them often, as inventory can change several times throughout the day.

The shopping and pin trading experiences are another example of how the Grand Floridian balances luxury with Disney magic. While the resort maintains an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, these small touches provide fun opportunities for Disney fans to engage with cast members and discover unexpected treasures throughout the property.

During my stay, portions of the Grand Floridian lobby were undergoing refurbishment. While some guests may be concerned about construction, my experience was overwhelmingly positive. I was genuinely impressed by how bright, elegant, and immaculate the resort felt despite the ongoing work. Disney did an excellent job maintaining the resort's upscale atmosphere, and at no point did construction diminish the feeling of staying at one of Walt Disney World's premier resorts. In many ways, the refreshed spaces enhanced the overall experience, making the resort feel even more polished and inviting.
