Saint Lucia is the perfect blend of romance, adventure and luxury. Known for its dramatic Pitons, lush rainforests and pristine beaches, this Caribbean island offers a diverse array of experiences, from spa retreats and wellness resorts to hiking and zip-lining through the tropical rainforest. My personal favorite is Jade Mountain Resort, where the rooms offer jaw-dropping views of the Pitons and the ocean. For couples, the island’s secluded beaches and intimate resorts, like Cap Maison, offer an exclusive experience, perfect for honeymooners or those celebrating anniversaries. Activities like sulfur springs baths at Sulphur Springs and exploring the island’s volcanic crater are a must for the adventurous traveler. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or exploration, Saint Lucia offers something magical for every type of traveler.
Mauritius stands out for its blend of cultures, luxury resorts and breathtaking landscapes. From the white sandy beaches of One&Only Le Saint Géran to the lush green gardens of Shangri-La Le Touessrok, this Indian Ocean island is a paradise for those who love relaxation paired with rich cultural experiences. Mauritius is more than just a beach destination; it’s an island that offers excellent hiking trails in places like Black River Gorges National Park, thrilling water activities like diving and snorkeling, and a vibrant food scene with influences from India, Africa and France. I highly recommend a visit to Le Morne Brabant for both its natural beauty and its cultural significance, offering panoramic views of the coast and the island’s history as a former escape route for runaway slaves. Mauritius is perfect for those looking for a mix of beach luxury, nature and culture.
The Azores are an archipelago that many people still don’t know about, making it the perfect destination for the discerning traveler seeking serenity and untouched beauty. Comprising nine islands off the coast of Portugal, the Azores are a dream for nature lovers, with lush landscapes, volcanic craters, hot springs and unique wildlife. The largest island, São Miguel, is home to Pedras do Mar Resort & Spa, where you can enjoy luxurious accommodations alongside stunning views of the ocean and volcanic mountains. For an active experience, hiking around the crater lakes at Sete Cidades is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Europe. Visitors can also unwind in the thermal hot springs of Furnas or explore the charming town of Ponta Delgada. The Azores are ideal for eco-conscious travelers, adventure seekers and those looking for a destination that's off the beaten path.
These three destinations offer diverse experiences — from the tropical luxury of Saint Lucia to the cultural richness of Mauritius and the untouched beauty of the Azores. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure or culture, you’ll find a perfect fit here.
Need to know
Saint Lucia
Best time to visit: While Saint Lucia is a year-round destination, the best time to visit is between December and April when the weather is dry and pleasant. Avoid the hurricane season (June to November) if you can.
Getting around: Renting a car is highly recommended for exploring the island at your own pace, especially if you're interested in visiting some of the more remote beaches and natural attractions. However, be aware that the island has a lot of steep, winding roads.
Local cuisine: Don't miss the opportunity to try local dishes such as green fig and saltfish (Saint Lucia’s national dish) or Creole-style lobster. For a truly authentic experience, visit the Castries Market for fresh fruits and street food.
Spa tip: Sulphur Springs is not just about soaking in volcanic mud baths — there are also several nearby hot springs where you can experience rejuvenating natural mineral baths. A visit here can feel like a mini spa retreat while exploring the island’s natural wonders.
Mauritius
Best time to visit: Mauritius is an ideal year-round destination, though the best time to visit is between May and December, when the weather is mild and dry. Avoid January to March if possible, as it’s cyclone season.
Dress code and local culture: Mauritius is a mix of cultures, and while the island is casual, it's always a good idea to dress modestly when visiting religious sites. Don’t forget to cover up with a hat and sunscreen while exploring the beaches and hiking trails.
Island hopping: If you’re staying for a longer time, consider taking a boat trip to explore nearby smaller islands like Île aux Cerfs for pristine beaches and clear waters, or Île aux Serpents for a more secluded experience.
Water sports & diving: Mauritius is a world-renowned destination for water sports, so make sure to try out snorkeling, diving or even underwater sea walking. The coral reefs are vibrant and home to abundant marine life. For divers, the island offers some of the best dive sites in the world, particularly around Blue Bay Marine Park.
Local tip: Visit the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden in the north of the island, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere. It's home to unique plants, including giant water lilies and a vast collection of tropical species.
Azores
Best time to visit: The best time to visit the Azores is from late spring to early fall (May to October). The weather is mild, and while the islands can be rainy year-round, you’ll have the best chance of sunny days during these months. Don’t forget to bring layers, as the weather can change quickly.
Getting around: The Azores are made up of several islands, so inter-island flights or ferries are the best way to travel between them. São Miguel, Terceira and Pico are the most popular islands to visit, but each island has its own charm. Renting a car is essential for exploring São Miguel's stunning landscapes and crater lakes.
Be prepared for active adventures: Hiking is one of the best ways to experience the Azores' beauty, but some trails can be challenging, so make sure to bring comfortable shoes and appropriate gear. For something truly unique, explore the lava caves on Terceira Island or hike up Pico Mountain — the highest peak in Portugal.
Thermal springs: After a day of hiking or exploring, unwind in one of the many natural hot springs around São Miguel, such as those in Furnas. Poça da Dona Beija is a particularly beautiful spot for a relaxing dip.
Local tip: The Azores are renowned for their cheese, particularly on São Jorge Island. Be sure to try Queijo São Jorge, a semi-hard cheese made from cow’s milk. Pair it with a local wine from the Azorean vineyards for a delicious treat.
