Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero: A Luxury Hotel Review
Curator’s statement

I toured this property during a recent visit to San Francisco, and it immediately stood out for how different it feels from most city hotels. With guest rooms starting on the 38th floor, the experience is noticeably quieter, more private, and more elevated than typical urban stays. The views alone give it a strong sense of place. This is a great option for travelers looking for a refined, calm home base in the city with polished service.

Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero is a luxury hotel located in the Financial District, with all guest rooms situated on floors 38 through 48. That design creates a very different experience compared to most San Francisco hotels. Being that high up, the hotel feels quieter and more removed from the city below while still being centrally located. The panoramic views of the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, and Bay Bridge are one of the biggest highlights of the property.

This hotel was previously the Mandarin Oriental and transitioned to Four Seasons about five years ago. One important thing to know is that there is currently no spa on property. The hotel does offer a 24-hour fitness center, valet parking for a surcharge, laundry and dry cleaning services, and event space for small gatherings and weddings. The on-site restaurant, Orafo, focuses on Italian cuisine with a California influence, including fresh-made pastas, local seafood, and shareable dishes.

Room categories are well structured and offer flexibility depending on your needs. Superior Rooms are 350 square feet and do not allow rollaway beds. Deluxe Rooms are 425 square feet and do allow rollaways at no additional charge, which can be helpful for certain setups. Premier Rooms are 450 square feet, and the Premier Bridge View category is especially notable, with corner rooms offering views of both the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge. Suites range from Studio Suites at 575 square feet to One-Bedroom Suites at 800 square feet, with Terrace Suites reaching approximately 1,200 square feet and offering a more elevated experience.

One of the standout features of this property is the concierge team. They begin working with guests about three months prior to arrival, which is especially helpful for securing dining reservations, planning activities, and coordinating transportation ahead of time. This level of support makes the experience feel more seamless, particularly for travelers who prefer to have plans in place before arriving.

This property is a great fit for travelers looking for a luxury San Francisco stay with strong service, high-floor views, and a calmer atmosphere. It works especially well for couples, solo travelers, and those planning a longer stay or pairing San Francisco with Napa or Sonoma. It may be less ideal for travelers specifically looking for a spa-focused stay or a resort-style experience with extensive on-site amenities.
