A Dreamy Adults-Only Week on the Riviera Maya at UNICO 20°87°
Curator’s statement

If you’re dreaming of a beautiful beach, multiple pools, daily massages, and endless cocktails that mysteriously refill themselves, UNICO 20°87° might be your new happy place. This adults-only, all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya is basically the “let’s pretend we live here” kind of vacation— stylish, relaxed, and just the right amount of bougie. UNICO 20°87° sits right along the Riviera Maya coastline, and, honestly, it leans into the “grown-up getaway” vibe from the moment you roll up.

First impressions: Beachy, modern & oh so pretty

I am an interior designer, so you know it is beautiful if I was impressed. UNICO 20°87° is one of those places that hits you with the wow factor the second you walk in. The whole resort is gorgeous—breezy spaces, cool modern décor, lush plants everywhere, and restaurants that are all chic and unique. And the smell?! The entire place has this dreamy, warm, spa-like scent that follows you everywhere in the best way. I said “It smells so good in here” so many times it became a joke (that wasn’t really a joke) on our stay. You can even purchase their scents to take home and they also sell amazing perfumes.

The rooms: Chic, cozy & low-key fancy

The rooms feel like the type of space you'd create if you hired a designer and said, “make this look effortlessly cool.” Depending on your style, you can go classic with a standard king, upgrade to a swim-up Alcoba (yes, straight from your terrace into the pool), or splurge on a suite for extra space and views.

Almost all rooms come with amenities like:

  • Terraces/balconies with jet tubs and large chaises

  • Stocked minibars

  • 24/7 room service

  • And a Local Host who’s basically your vacation assistant-slash-fairy-godperson

The food: Come hungry, leave extremely happy (and maybe a few pounds heavier)

Five main restaurants mean you’re never more than a few steps away from something delicious—from laid-back casual bites to elevated dinners that feel date-night-worthy. Be sure to make your reservations for dinner in advance, but breakfast and lunch can be on the fly, plus of course the 24/7 room service.

The standout: Cueva Siete, with menus curated by chef Gerardo Vázquez Lugo—a love letter to regional Mexican cuisine that’s both authentic and creative.

Highlights include:

  • Fideo at Cueva Siete

  • Pad Thai at Mura House

  • Beef Wellington at Avec

  • Tartare di carne at Mi Carisa

  • The hashbrowns at Mi Carisa or In Room (they are like bougie McDonald's hashbrowns in the best way)

It’s the kind of dining setup where you’ll say, “Let’s try everything,” … and then actually do it.

The spa: Relax, rejuvenate & repeat

The spa at UNICO 20°87° is basically a little slice of heaven tucked right into the resort. The treatments pull from local traditions, so everything feels grounding and a little magical—think soothing massages, refreshing hydrotherapy, and rituals that make your skin and your soul feel brand new. The relaxation areas are peaceful, the therapists are incredible (be sure to ask for Victor if you want the best), and, by the time you walk out, you’re moving in slow-motion vacation bliss. This is not a one and done type of spa; I went three times and could have gone more! I highly recommend the Harmony massage as it has a little bit of everything.

Activities: Choose your own adventure

UNICO 20°87° has the perfect mix of “do everything” and “do absolutely nothing,” depending on your mood. If you’re feeling active, there are tons of fun options: float-fit classes in the pool, beachside yoga, pool parties (complete with a live saxophonist), mixology workshops, DIY arts and crafts, and even off-site adventures like cenote swims and cultural tours. And for the days when you just want easy, grab a drink and just lounge by the pool. Everything feels fun, low-pressure, and super vacation-y—the kind of activities you join on a whim and end up loving. It’s the ideal setup for switching things up based on how you feel on any given day.

Need to know

UNICO 20°87° isn’t trying to be flashy—it’s trying to be effortlessly amazing, and it succeeds. From the design to the food to the serene adults-only vibe, it’s the kind of place where the days blend together in the best possible way. If your dream vacation involves stylish relaxation, delicious meals, great service, and a pool float that becomes your new best friend, then UNICO might just be your perfect match.
