Banff National Park is a breathtaking destination that seamlessly blends adventure with romance. While the park appeals to all travelers, it offers an exceptionally intimate escape for active couples looking to reconnect and recharge. Your romantic journey begins with a stop at the Surprise Corner viewpoint. Here, you will catch your first stunning glimpse of the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs, known as the "Castle in the Rockies." Upon arrival at the Fairmont, you will experience world-class, royal hospitality. This historic property serves as the perfect luxury home base for the first half of your itinerary. Spend your first afternoon immersing yourself in the resort's premium amenities. For a memorable pre-dinner experience, visit the sophisticated Rundle Bar to discover its hidden bookshelf door and enjoy a signature craft cocktail. For dinner, you can indulge at one of the Fairmont’s own acclaimed dining rooms, or take a short walk or complimentary shuttle into downtown Banff to explore the vibrant local culinary scene. For a chic yet relaxed evening, I highly recommend Three Bears Brewery and Restaurant. This unique venue beautifully brings the outdoors inside with its modern, nature-infused design. Be sure to order one of their artisanal pizzas; their proprietary sour pizza dough is truly exceptional!

Banff town
On the second day of your romantic sojourn, rise early to experience the natural beauty of Johnston Canyon and the Ink Pots before the daytime crowds arrive. This highly rewarding 7-mile round-trip trek takes approximately four and a half hours, offering a wonderful balance of dramatic scenery and serene wilderness. The first portion of the journey is a moderate, paved walkway along suspended catwalks over rushing water, leading past towering walls to the spectacular Upper Falls. From there, the trail transitions to a steeper, winding dirt path that climbs through a forest before opening up into a quiet, breathtaking mountain meadow. Here, you will discover the unique Ink Pots—five pristine, emerald-green mineral springs that bubble continuously to the surface against a magnificent alpine backdrop.
After returning to the Fairmont, spend a blissful afternoon unwinding. Rejuvenate your body by lounging alongside the resort's pools or soaking in the tranquil waters. As evening approaches, you will embark on a scenic gondola ride ascending Sulphur Mountain. Dine at the acclaimed Sky Bistro, an ultra-romantic venue perched at the summit. Featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the restaurant offers an unparalleled fine dining experience paired with views of the sun setting over the glowing mountain peaks.

Banff Springs Golf Course
On your third morning, take advantage of the legendary Banff Springs Golf Course, located just a short, complimentary shuttle ride from the hotel lobby. Known as one of the world's most stunning courses, you will be surrounded by spectacular mountain panoramas—and it is highly common to share the greens with local resident elk grazing peacefully against the alpine backdrop. After an exhilarating round of golf, transition into a relaxed lunch at the delightful, German-inspired Waldhaus Restaurant. Situated in a historic, cottage-style building nestled in the woods on the Fairmont resort grounds, its gorgeous patio is the ultimate hidden gem. Here, you can unwind with a crisp, refreshing Bavarian beer and share their signature warm, soft pretzels—the perfect rewarding snack after a morning on the course. Spend the evening strolling hand-in-hand through the charming streets of downtown Banff. The town offers a vibrant atmosphere filled with art galleries, boutique shopping, and cozy local artisan shops. It is the perfect, low-pressure way to absorb the local culture and pick up a few keepsakes from your time in the Rockies.

Cave and Basin National Park
On your fourth morning, step back in time to discover the birthplace of Canada’s national parks at the Cave and Basin National Historic Site. It was right here, in 1885, that the discovery of a natural thermal mineral spring led to the formal creation of Banff National Park. You will descend into an underground cave to view the original, steaming waters and observe the protected natural habitat of the endangered, microscopic Banff spring snail. The distinct, rich scent of sulfur in the air serves as a powerful reminder of the earth's geothermal energy pulsing directly beneath the Rockies. As the afternoon softens into evening, trade history for active exploration with a guided electric bike tour. This effortless, eco-friendly ride is the ultimate way to scout local wildlife and take in panoramic views. The route winds around the mirror-like waters of the Vermilion Lakes, traces the gentle curves of the Bow River, and glides past the manicured fairways of the Banff Springs Golf Course. Conclude your day by immersing yourselves in Banff’s celebrated culinary scene, choosing a restaurant that speaks to your mood: Lupo for Italian, The Maple Leaf for Canadian cuisine, or Bluebird, known for its prime rib.
On your fifth morning, bid a fond adieu to the majestic Fairmont Banff Springs and embark on one of the world's most spectacular road trips along the glorious Icefields Parkway. To enhance your journey, I recommend using the Guide Along audio tour app. As you drive, the app acts as your personal, GPS-triggered private guide, sharing the rich history of the park while highlighting the most breathtaking viewpoints along the way. Your first major stops will showcase the park's vibrant glacial beauty. Take a short walk to view the world-famous, brilliant turquoise waters of Peyto Lake from its panoramic overlook. This stop is not to be missed!

Peyto Lake
Also, be sure to stroll down into Mistaya Canyon to see the roaring river swirling through limestone walls. If you want to include an active mountain trek today, you can tackle the challenging Bow Lake Summit trail (at the Peyto Lake stop) or climb the iconic Parker Ridge Trail, which rewards you with sweeping views of the Saskatchewan Glacier. Continue north to the Columbia Icefield Center. Here, you can enjoy a scenic lunch, visit the interactive center, or take a short trek to the toe of the glacier. For an unforgettable adventure, step aboard an Ice Explorer—a massive, specially designed all-terrain vehicle that drives you directly onto the surface of the 10,000-year-old Athabasca Glacier, where you can step out onto the ancient ice together.
After exploring the glacier, enjoy a relaxing drive back toward Lake Louise. Check into your next luxurious home base, the world-renowned Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Conclude your epic travel day with a relaxed evening at the hotel. You can enjoy a hearty dinner at Alpine Social (no reservations required) or toast to your journey at the iconic Lakeview Lounge. Unwind with a glass of fine red wine as you look through the grand windows, reminiscing about the natural wonders of the Icefields Parkway.

Mistaya Canyon
On your sixth morning, take advantage of the exclusive luxury perks of your resort by boarding the complimentary guest shuttle from the Chateau Lake Louise directly to world-famous Moraine Lake. Because Moraine Lake is completely closed to public vehicles, this private shuttle provides a seamless experience. Before departing the hotel, stop by Guide’s Pantry inside the Chateau to pick up freshly prepared, artisanal sandwiches and gourmet treats for a scenic picnic. Upon arrival, your first stop is the short Rockpile Trail. Climbing to the top rewards you with a breathtaking panorama of Moraine Lake's impossibly brilliant turquoise water framed by the dramatic, towering peaks of the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Afterward, enjoy a peaceful hand-in-hand stroll along the flat Lakeside Trail, finding the perfect shoreline log to sit and enjoy your gourmet lunch. For an added active adventure, rent a canoe at the historic dock. Paddling across the glassy, glacier-fed waters allows you to experience the huge mountains surrounding you from a different perspective. After an enchanting day at the lake, return to the resort to refresh for your evening and prepare for your dinner at the elegant Fairview Bar and Restaurant inside the Chateau. Framed by massive arched windows overlooking Lake Louise, you can enjoy a seasonally inspired dinner featuring premium Canadian ingredients and expertly crafted cocktails.

Moraine Lake
On the final day of your extraordinary romantic journey, embark on an epic trek to discover the historic alpine tea houses in Banff National Park. Depending on your preferences, you can choose between two legendary routes: the Lake Agnes & Big Beehive Trail, or the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail. The first route leads you up a beautifully forested path to the charming, lakeside Lake Agnes Tea House for fresh sandwiches, soup, and tea. From there, continue up the switchbacks of the Big Beehive Trail, which rewards you with the most incredible, postcard-perfect views of Lake Louise's striking turquoise water below. For a more rugged, remote, and less-crowded alternative, the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail takes you to the meadows at the back of the lake. You will arrive at a rustic stone tea house where everything is hand-made with ingredients flown in by helicopter twice a year, or brought up in the backpacks of the staff. For highly ambitious couples seeking the ultimate active day, you can connect both trails into a spectacular loop that showcases the absolute best of the entire Lake Louise trails.

Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House
Upon descending from your trek, return to the resort for an ultra-luxury recovery experience. Visit Basin Glacial Waters at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the hotel's exclusive thermal bathing experience. Moving through their customized indoor-to-outdoor hydrotherapy circuit will deeply pamper your sore muscles, while the pure magic of the hot and cold water therapy completely revives your energy levels. It is an adults-only sanctuary designed to leave you both feeling entirely renewed. Conclude your unforgettable Banff journey with a fabulous, ultra-romantic dinner at Wallister Stube inside the Chateau. This cozy, wine-lined lounge offers upscale dining overlooking Lake Louise. Celebrate your final evening together by indulging in their curated three-course dinner menu with expert wine pairings. Be sure to savor their legendary, decadent traditional Swiss fondue—it is the ultimate reward and the perfect romantic finale to an unforgettable getaway with your favorite person.

Need to know
Premium mountain culinary experiences, such as Sky Bistro at the Sulphur Mountain summit and the traditional fondue experience at the Chateau's Walliser Stube, are in exceptionally high demand. To ensure prime seating times with optimal views, it is highly recommended to finalize and lock in these restaurant reservations several months in advance.
Also, Banff National Park is an active natural habitat for both black bears and grizzly bears. For maximum safety during all trail excursions, you should carry a canister of bear spray. It is essential that the spray is worn in an easily accessible hip holster or chest harness—never packed away inside a backpack. Prior to hitting the trails on Day 2, familiarize yourself with the mechanical safety clip and proper deployment techniques.
