Meliá Casa Maya: A Cozy, Family-Friendly Retreat for Short Getaways
Curator’s statement

During my stay at Meliá Casa Maya, I immediately felt the sincerity that defines the Meliá brand. From the heartfelt greetings to the warm, genuine energy throughout the resort, this property offered a reminder that great hospitality doesn’t need to be grand—it just needs to be genuine. While it’s still finding its rhythm as a newly reopened resort, Meliá Casa Maya already shines for families seeking an approachable, comfortable, and heartfelt getaway on the coast.

Meliá Casa Maya is a newly refreshed four-star property under the Meliá Hotels brand, offering a cozy beachfront experience with modern design and family-friendly comfort. Originally opened in 1980, the resort underwent a complete renovation and reopened in December 2024, blending a fresh, contemporary look with subtle touches of its original charm.

With 258 rooms across seven categories, the resort feels inviting and easy to explore. 95 percent of rooms offer water views, and all feature large windows, while suites include private balconies. There are 17 Grand Suites available for guests seeking more space and elevated amenities.

The resort’s manageable size was one of my favorite aspects—it’s easy to walk through and explore without ever feeling overwhelming. Everything is conveniently located, which makes it perfect for families or travelers who appreciate accessibility.

While the property itself is beautiful, I wasn’t completely thrilled with the location. It sits near a major road, and at times, you can hear passing traffic—not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you’re craving total tranquility.

The staff, however, were exceptional. Meliá properties have a tradition where team members greet you by placing their hand over their heart—a small but incredibly heartfelt gesture that makes every interaction feel personal. Every staff member I encountered was warm, kind, and genuinely proud to be part of the resort. This signature Meliá hospitality was consistent across all their properties during this trip and left a lasting impression.

The food and drinks were another highlight—both delicious and beautifully presented. The variety felt thoughtfully curated rather than excessive, and the cocktails were well crafted, adding to the overall quality of the dining experience.

In the evenings, I loved the thoughtful turndown service—returning to my room to find chocolates on the pillows was such a simple but meaningful touch.

Overall, the resort still has some growing to do as it continues to settle into its new renovation, but it’s already a very pleasant stay. The genuine service, comfortable design, and sense of warmth make it a solid option for travelers looking for something smaller and more personal than a traditional all-inclusive.

The Casa Maya Spa operates daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Even though it had only been open for 22 days at the time of my visit, other advisors were already raving about how incredible it was, especially noting its calming design and top-tier treatments. It’s clear the spa will become one of the property’s strongest selling points for wellness-focused travelers.

Meliá Casa Maya is best suited for families or travelers looking for a smaller, easygoing resort experience over a large, bustling all-inclusive. It’s ideal for a short stay of around three days, offering a balance of comfort, relaxation, and genuine service without feeling repetitive.

Need to know

I would absolutely book this resort for a short family vacation. It was not far from the Cancún airport. For those travelers who also want to explore off resort, there is a main street of shops, restaurants, and museums for local experiences.
