As one of the most anticipated hotel openings of 2025, Rosewood Amsterdam lives up to every expectation—offering refined interiors, thoughtfully curated art collections, and the impeccable service for which Rosewood is known. Housed in a landmark building, the hotel perfectly captures the brand’s signature “Sense of Place,” making it a truly inspiring sanctuary in the heart of Amsterdam.

Location

Housed in the historic former Palace of Justice, Rosewood Amsterdam is the result of a decade-long transformation—meticulously constructed, thoughtfully curated, and finally unveiled in May 2025. Nestled along the picturesque Prinsengracht canal, the hotel offers a serene retreat in one of the city's most charming neighborhoods.

Surrounded by elegant waterways and within walking distance of many of Amsterdam’s cultural treasures, its location strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and tranquility. Unlike the busier areas near the central station—often overwhelmed by crowds and commercial noise—Rosewood Amsterdam provides a welcome escape from the city’s intensity. Whether you’re strolling to the Rijksmuseum just 10 minutes away, indulging in boutique shopping, or exploring nearby restaurants and galleries, the hotel serves as an ideal base for all types of travelers. Returning here after a day in the vibrant city feels like a breath of fresh air.

Who should visit

Rosewood Amsterdam is the perfect luxury haven for every type of traveler. Whether you're journeying solo, escaping on a romantic getaway, celebrating a honeymoon, exploring with friends, or traveling with children or extended family, the hotel offers an inviting and thoughtfully tailored home base in the heart of the city.

Art lovers, in particular, will be captivated by the hotel's impressive collection of over 1,000 works, with a special emphasis on emerging Dutch artists. Just off the lobby, The Gallery hosts a rotating exhibition space, showcasing curated pieces that change throughout the year. A standout feature is the hotel's one-of-a-kind art vending machine, offering limited-edition collaborations that make for distinctive and meaningful souvenirs. Among the most striking installations is the grandmother clock in the lobby, paired with its companion grandfather clock on the second floor—both created by celebrated Dutch artist Maarten Baas. These mesmerizing, real-time video clocks feature 12-hour performances that showcase the passage of time in a unique, interactive format.

Families are also thoughtfully accommodated, with a host of offerings designed for young travelers. Children can embark on a scavenger hunt with the Young Explorer’s Guide, enjoy personalized bedtime stories, and take advantage of dedicated pool hours designed just for them. With numerous connecting room options available, families have the space and flexibility to feel completely at home—while still enjoying the full luxury experience.

Accommodation

With just 134 rooms and suites, Rosewood Amsterdam may not qualify as a boutique hotel in size—but the level of personalized service, attention to detail, and sense of intimacy create an experience that feels far more exclusive.

The hotel is thoughtfully built around three distinct courtyards: a glass-covered atrium, a cozy terrace with fire pits and lounge seating, and an open-air garden. Depending on your room’s location, you may overlook one of these peaceful inner sanctuaries. While the courtyard views themselves may not be the most dramatic, the abundant natural light they draw in is a welcome feature. For a more iconic Amsterdam perspective, opt for a canal-facing room to truly immerse yourself in the charm of Dutch city living.

Each guest room at Rosewood Amsterdam is entirely unique—a nod to the building’s historic origins as the former Palace of Justice. No two layouts are the same, even within the same category. Entry-level rooms start at a generous 333 to 452 square feet and offer views of the courtyards, surrounding streets, or canals.

Rooms are designed with clean, modern lines, softened by rich materials and accented with locally inspired artwork. Thoughtful use of space is evident throughout: an oddly shaped corner becomes a cozy reading nook bathed in sunlight; a quiet alcove transforms into a tucked-away bathroom area. These creative layouts make each space feel deeply personal and intentionally crafted.

The bathrooms are a particular highlight—modern and minimalist yet inviting and serene. They serve as private sanctuaries after a day of exploring the city, outfitted with plush towels, luxurious amenities, and, in some rooms, deep soaking tubs complete with bath salts for an indulgent unwind. While not every room includes a tub, those that do are worth requesting in advance.

Families are also well accommodated. With both interconnecting and outer-connecting room configurations available, the hotel provides a rare and welcome sense of space in a European setting. These options give families the freedom to spread out while maintaining closeness—plus the added benefit of multiple bathrooms, ideal for stress-free mornings.

The sun-filled living room in the Library House.

For the ultimate splurge, consider booking one of the hotel’s five Houses—expansive specialty suites ranging from 1,100 to over 1,900 square feet. These residences offer elevated amenities including full kitchens, spacious living areas, private butler service, and a complimentary one-way airport transfer. Among them, the Library House stands out: straddling two internal courtyards, it is bathed in natural light from both sides and seamlessly blends historic architectural details with contemporary elegance. With its original moldings, tailored interiors, and bespoke touches, it's a truly singular retreat in the heart of Amsterdam.

Dining

In addition to the elevated, personalized service that comes with booking through a trusted advisor, the complimentary benefits offered through a Rosewood Elite advisor add exceptional value to your stay. Among the most notable perks is the daily breakfast for two—and at Rosewood Amsterdam, it’s not just a meal, it’s a highlight of the stay. Served at Eeuwen, the hotel’s all-day dining venue, breakfast is a thoughtfully curated experience that showcases fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients—each dish presented with care, creativity, and a true sense of place.

Unlike some hotel breakfasts that are limited in scope, this one invites indulgence. Each registered guest (up to two per room) is welcome to order freely from the full à la carte menu—including drinks—making it easy to sample a wide range of offerings. Local specialties shine alongside classic breakfast favorites: think Balik salmon, delicate poffertjes (traditional Dutch mini pancakes), and De Ruijter hagelslag (a nostalgic Dutch treat of buttered bread topped with chocolate sprinkles), served alongside omelets, waffles, pancakes, and more. The hash browns—golden, perfectly crisp, and seasoned to perfection—became our must-have side dish every morning and are not to be missed.

The beverage options are equally generous, with a wide range of espresso drinks, loose-leaf teas, smoothies, wellness shots, and fresh juices. The thoughtful variety allowed us to try something new each day and revisit our favorites on our final morning—a lovely ritual to close out the trip.

Dinner at Eeuwen is a culinary delight.

In the evening, Eeuwen transforms into a refined yet relaxed dining destination, rooted in sustainability and seasonality. Dishes are prepared with intention and artistry, and when the weather cooperates, the sun-drenched courtyard offers an ideal al fresco setting for a lingering dinner under the open sky.

For a more intimate and creative cocktail experience, head to Avocatuur—named after the Dutch word for "legal profession" in a playful nod to the building’s judicial history. The bar is stylishly eclectic, with cozy corners and distinctive design elements that make it just as appealing for a solo evening as it is for a night out with friends. Signature cocktails include the house-distilled jenever, a juniper-based spirit deeply rooted in Dutch tradition. Indian-inspired small plates round out the experience, adding warmth and bold flavor to the menu.

For something lighter or more casual, The Court—located just off the lobby—offers a versatile and inviting space throughout the day. Whether you're settling in for afternoon tea with delicate pastries or gathering with friends for happy hour drinks, the setting adapts beautifully. Choose between plush indoor seating or step into the courtyard on sunny days for a relaxed and stylish escape.

Amenities

Whether you're visiting Amsterdam for business or leisure, Rosewood Amsterdam offers an exceptional wellness experience that allows you to stay grounded and rejuvenated throughout your stay. Venture down to the hotel’s subterranean levels to discover a hidden sanctuary dedicated to fitness, restoration, and relaxation.

The intimate fitness center is open 24/7 and offers a thoughtfully curated selection of essential equipment in a compact, welcoming space. While not large, the gym includes just a few high-quality machines—such as treadmills, elliptical, rowing machine, exercise bike—alongside a set of free weights and a versatile multi-exercise station. Designed to accommodate a variety of workout styles without overwhelming the space, it's ideal for guests seeking a quiet, focused environment for their fitness routines.

Poolside nooks for lounging and relaxing.

For those who prefer a slower pace, the serene 12-meter indoor pool provides a peaceful space for laps or quiet reflection. Tucked along the pool's arched walls are cozy nooks furnished with oversized daybeds and soft lighting, creating private pockets of calm where guests can unwind with a book or simply rest. Refreshments, including chilled water and light snacks, are available nearby for added comfort.

Of course, every day is a good day for the spa. The world-class Asaya Spa invites guests to fully disconnect from the city's buzz with a range of holistic treatments tailored to soothe the body and mind. Whether you're seeking deep relaxation, rejuvenation, or a complete reset, the tranquil ambiance and expert care at Asaya provide the perfect space to restore your balance.

Need to know

Given the building’s historic nature—where no two rooms are exactly alike—it's especially important to book through a trusted advisor. Not only will you benefit from exclusive perks, but your advisor can also communicate specific preferences within your room category to ensure your stay is tailored to your needs.

The property includes two wheelchair-accessible rooms. If you or someone in your party requires accessible accommodations, be sure to book early to secure one of these limited but thoughtfully designed spaces.

If time allows, take a stroll through your floor and explore the property—there are charming hidden sitting areas and thoughtfully curated art pieces waiting to be discovered on every level. Even within the same corridor, the design transitions between sleek modern elements and preserved historic touches, offering a unique perspective on the building’s layered past. Don’t forget to look up: many of the original moldings and architectural details have been beautifully restored, offering a quiet reminder of the building’s distinguished history.

As with any newly opened hotel, minor adjustments are part of the early evolution as the team fully settles into its rhythm. That said, if you're seeking a one-of-a-kind stay in an architecturally rich space—with personalized service, design-forward interiors, and a strong sense of place—Rosewood Amsterdam is an unforgettable choice.
