Where to stay

Paris is a destination that effortlessly balances history, culture, and understated luxury. While its landmarks are world-famous, the true appeal of Paris lies in how the city is experienced—through slow mornings at neighborhood cafés, afternoons spent wandering art-filled streets, and evenings defined by exceptional dining.

Arc de Triomphe

Champs-Élysées is a long and lively avenue where you can explore plenty of luxury shops and casual dining spots. At the end of the street, you’ll find the iconic and famous Arc de Triomphe.

Best areas to stay in Paris

When selecting where to stay in Paris, I recommend choosing the neighborhood based on your travel style. The 7th arrondissement offers a refined and quieter setting near the Eiffel Tower, while Saint-Germain-des-Prés is ideal for those who appreciate classic café culture and walkable charm. Le Marais suits travelers who enjoy a livelier, boutique-filled atmosphere, and the 8th arrondissement provides proximity to luxury shopping and iconic landmarks.

A Parisian paradise for fashion and architecture lovers.

Accommodation

During this stay, we stayed at Shangri-La Paris, a stunning hotel in a former royal residence overlooking the Seine. Its location is perfect, close to the Eiffel Tower and other key landmarks, yet quiet and private.

The hotel blends Parisian elegance with Shangri-La’s renowned service. Rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed, many with direct Eiffel Tower views, and the atmosphere feels more like a luxurious home than a formal hotel. It’s perfect for couples, special occasions, or anyone seeking a luxurious, tranquil retreat.

Dining

Dining in Paris is an experience in itself, and I recommend a mix of classic brasseries, neighborhood cafés, and elevated dining spots. Long lunches in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, intimate dinners in Le Marais, and carefully selected Michelin-starred restaurants allow travelers to experience the city’s culinary depth without feeling overwhelmed.

Reservations are essential for popular venues, particularly in the evenings, and spacing meals thoughtfully enhances the overall rhythm of the trip.

Additional notes: If you’re in town and would like to try a different restaurant for dinner, as I did, visit Il Sorrentino—an Italian culinary experience in the heart of Paris. I highly recommend following their Chef’s menu of the day.

Spa day

Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La Paris, is centered around a beautiful 17-meter swimming pool and terrace bathed in natural light. It offers a holistic well-being approach through treatments, facials, and massages. The service is excellent; I recommend booking directly through their website at least one day in advance.

In sum

Paris offers endless opportunities for meaningful experiences, from private museum visits and guided neighborhood walks to leisurely strolls along the Seine and moments of unplanned discovery. Whether it’s exploring historic streets, enjoying art at a relaxed pace, or simply sitting at a café watching the city unfold, Paris rewards travelers who slow down. With the right balance of iconic highlights and personal moments, the city feels timeless, elegant, and deeply memorable

Need to know

  • When exploring Paris, try to plan visits to popular attractions early in the day to avoid crowds, and consider walking or using the metro to fully enjoy the city’s charm.

  • Don’t miss local markets, hidden gardens, and lesser-known neighborhoods like Le Marais or Canal Saint-Martin for a more authentic Parisian experience.

  • Comfortable shoes are a must, and carrying a small travel umbrella can come in handy for sudden showers.

  • Finally, take time to enjoy the city slowly—sitting at a café terrace or along the Seine is as much a part of Paris as the sights themselves.
