Curator’s statement
Having moved to the west from the midwest, I've become very fond of New Mexico over the years. I feel that it is often looked over for some of the surrounding states, but there are so many unique destinations within New Mexico. Taos in particular, offering incredible cuisine, relaxation, artistic charm, close access to hot springs and nearby activities for a perfect getaway. In this trip report, I stayed at El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa, which offers luxury accommodations in the heart of Taos, New Mexico.

El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa is a beautiful luxury resort with Southwestern decor in a tranquil setting. The resort is located in central Taos, a 13-minute walk from the historic Taos Plaza and a 30-minute drive from Taos Ski Valley. El Monte Sagrado was recognized by Forbes in 2019 as one of The Top Spa Resorts in America. The perfect location for your next girls trip or couples getaway, The Living Spa offers an extensive spa menu, with two romantic candlelit couple's suites available.
With a stay at El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa, you'll have your choice between 48 Taos Mountain Rooms, 18 Native American Suites, six historic casitas, or 12 Premiere or Global Suites. I stayed in one of the Taos Mountain Rooms pictured in this trip report. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, with beautiful decor and a sense of place.
El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa houses one on-site restaurant, De La Tierra that serves seasonal American dishes for breakfast, dinner and a Sunday brunch, curated by executive chef Cristina Martinez. In addition, there is one on-site bar, Anaconda Bar offering craft cocktails and a happy hour.
The resort offers amenities such as complimentary on-site yoga, a fitness center, a grotto-style pool, and a complimentary shuttle service to local restaurants and bars on a first come, first serve basis.
With 7,000 square feet of meeting space, El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa is the perfect location to host your wedding or event. You can choose between The Sacred Circle, for a more intimate ceremony, or The Rio Grande Ballroom, for a larger party. The resort also offers a Private Wine Room that can accommodate a customized menu for up to eight people. For your next meeting or event, choose between the Rio Grande Ballroom, Sandoval Room, Gallery, Executive Boardroom or the Library.
For local area dining, I recommend Antonio's Taste of Mexico, Lambert's of Taos for a foodie-inspired menu, Aji Restaurant for the most delicious Peruvian cuisine (try the Paella), and Michael's Kitchen for a mouthwatering pastry case.
Need to know
For activities in the nearby area, I would recommend a short trip to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs (you won't regret it), a rafting & winery adventure, a day tour to Chaco Canyon, skiing at Taos Valley Ski Resort or hiking in Rio Grande Del Norte Monument & Taos Pueblo.
