Iguazu Falls: A Sanctuary of Natural Beauty
Curator’s statement

Staying at this hotel offers unparalleled access to the Falls, from the Brazilian side, since it is inside the park and hotel guests have unrestricted access after hours. What this means is that early mornings and evenings are spent taking in the beauty of the world’s largest waterfall system. It is a perfect spot to visit as part of a larger South American adventure.

Sunset from the Belmond

Breathtaking beauty from above

I booked this hotel during shoulder season (right before the holiday crowds), which made it feel like we had the Falls to ourselves. Throughout our stay, the hotel staff went out of their way to assist as needed without being pushy. The grounds and the Falls never felt crowded, and an abundance of flowers and wildlife was a daily norm.

Beautiful Iguazu Falls

We spent our days exploring the Falls and the surrounding hiking/biking trails—a plethora of different complimentary and paid activities are available for hotel guests. Our favorites were the champagne tasting at sunset, biking the trails, first light walks, the Macuco boat safari, which winds through rapids and dips into the falls, cachaca tasting in the main bar, and a midnight guided hike to see the moonbow (a moonlight rainbow: only visible on a full moon, so plan accordingly).

The food was excellent, with a good variety as well. Breakfasts and lunches were enjoyed at the Itaipu restaurant (the dessert variety was fantastic) and one night we splurged on a multi-course dinner at the Y restaurant, which was beautifully curated and the best meal of our trip to Brazil.
