Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection
Curator’s statement

This was my first trip to Cabo and it DID NOT disappoint. I deliberated on hotels for a while but ultimately went with Chileno Bay and have absolutely no regrets. I took two girlfriends and we stayed in a 3-Bedroom Ocean View Villa.

The Property was lush with amazing flowers and landscaping. It had a very tropical feel. The rooms and buildings had lots of earthy elements. The rooms were warm with the right amount of stone and wood and plaster. Nothing was higher than four floors and the property was large but totally walkable, although I did see people driving golf carts and the staff would always offer a ride if passing by. It had a nice fresh, contemporary vibe and being only several years old, everything was up to date and seemed to be maintained meticulously.

The service was over the top attentive. You didn't walk by a single employee anywhere on the property without someone saying hello or acknowledging you. The staff did an amazing job at recognizing you and remembering your name whether it was poolside or near the valet waiting for a ride.

I would highly recommend this hotel to any type of group, couple, family young or old. When meeting other people around the resort or traveling to Mexico, they had said Chileno was one of their top choices.

The spa has done awesome collaboration with The Well. They carry Biologique Recherche, which is one of the nicest skincare lines and they have a lovely little boutique with a small but nicely curated selection. The spa is earthy and natural. It is an experience all unto itself. Once you check in they ask which wellness drink you prefer from their menu. Then they guide you to sit and do a meditation in a beautiful circle decorated with herbs and candles. After you set your intention they do a quick sound bath on you to recalibrate your energy and guide you to do a steam, salt room, cold plunge or hot tub while you wait for your treatment. Then after your treatment you can lounge and use the facilities again if you wish. You can access the spa if you dont have a treatment, but there is a usage fee.

The fitness center is also large and state of the art. You can hit the treadmill in the morning with a fresh open air view down the cascading pool and out into the ocean. I did a yoga and pilates class in the group fitness room which were both wonderful.

Both onsite restaurants YAYA and COMAL as fabulous. YAYA is open for lunch and dinner and is served at the top of the pool. Comal is at the ocean front of the resort and is open of breakfast or dinner. We did meals at both and Comal is rated one of the best restaurants in Cabo. We ate there for our last meal and ordered about ten different things. EVERYTHING was delicious.

We went to Esperanza and Montage for other meals while there. Esperanza was huge, I didn't look at rooms but it felt a little dated and was really just a big property. But views from the lobby were gorgeous. The Montage felt sleek and modern and would have been another great choice. However, it didnt seem to have the lushness and casual elegance of Chileno.

lounge area for sitting
lakeside patio for lounging

But all in all, I love Mexico and felt that it was safe and fun and the culture and people were so kind and wonderful. I wish that five star hotels in the US had service this good!
