The Amalfi Coast is one of the rare destinations where the setting is just as important as the experience itself. Dining here is defined by dramatic cliffs, glowing sunsets, and terraces that seem to float above the sea. The most sought-after restaurants are those that fully embrace this scenery, where the atmosphere becomes as memorable as the meal itself.

In Positano, some of the most iconic dining experiences are found at Il Tridente at Hotel Poseidon, which offers a beautiful rooftop setting ideal for sunset dinners. I particularly love it because it feels more secluded and relaxed than many of the restaurants in town, offering a quieter atmosphere away from the crowds while still enjoying spectacular views. I recommend arriving before sunset and lingering over an aperitivo before dinner, and I often suggest it to travelers looking for a more laid-back alternative to some of Positano’s busier hotspots.

Chez Black is a classic beachfront lunch spot along the main promenade. Like many restaurants directly on the beach, it is definitely touristy, but it’s a fun option if you know what you’re getting and are looking for pizza, pasta, and people-watching. I usually recommend it for a casual lunch rather than a destination dinner, and the seafood pasta and pizza are crowd favorites.

For something truly special, Maestro’s at Villa Treville delivers an unforgettable cliffside atmosphere that feels hidden from the world. It remains one of my favorite hidden gems on the coast, offering a secluded, romantic villa feel that many visitors never discover. The local white wine and homemade pasta were delicious, and I loved how the entire property felt worlds away from the crowds of Positano.

La Sponda at Le Sirenuse remains one of the most famous dining rooms on the coast, known for its candlelit ambiance and elevated cuisine. For me, it’s one of the most romantic dining experiences on the Amalfi Coast, and if you’re celebrating something special, this is the place to splurge on a tasting menu. Music on the Rocks offers a completely different experience—an iconic seaside cave club and bar that comes alive after dark.

Over in Capri, dining is equally focused on scenery and atmosphere. Da Paolino, set beneath a canopy of lemon trees, is one of the island’s most recognizable dinner experiences. This was one of the most memorable dinners of my trip, and I still recommend ordering a limoncello after dinner beneath the lemon trees—it’s one of those quintessential Capri moments.

For sweeping views, Ristorante Il Geranio is tucked away on a hill overlooking Capri’s impossibly blue waters. Despite being close to the center of town, it feels wonderfully secluded and serves excellent homemade pasta alongside one of the best views on the island. I loved how peaceful it felt compared to the energy of Capri’s main shopping streets. La Fontelina provides a quintessential beach club experience with crystal-clear water and dramatic coastal views that define Capri’s effortless glamour.

In Sorrento, the emphasis shifts toward panoramic terraces and sunset aperitivos. Terrazza Vittoria at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is one of my absolute favorite sunset spots on the coast and a must-do even if you are not staying at the hotel. Of all the sunset venues I visited, this is one of the places I think about most. I highly recommend the tableside Bellini service, which feels incredibly special and perfectly captures the glamour of the Amalfi Coast.

La Pergola at Bellevue Syrene is another standout, especially at sunset, with a refined terrace setting above the water. There is a minimum spend requirement for some of the prime sunset tables, but in my opinion, the views make it well worth it. The hotel also offers a unique wine experience in its historic cellar, though it doesn’t have the same sweeping coastal views.

For a more immersive local experience, a visit to a lemon grove such as La Limonaia in Sorrento provides tastings and a beautiful garden setting that captures the essence of the region. One of my favorite discoveries was their orange-infused olive oil, which was both unexpected and delicious. I ended up bringing a bottle home because it was such a unique reminder of the trip.

While these are some of the most memorable spots on the Amalfi Coast, there are countless incredible restaurants, beach clubs, and hidden terraces throughout the region. I always tell travelers that many of the best experiences come down to timing, local recommendations, and securing the right table for sunset—often the most unforgettable part of the entire trip.
