What Blew Me Away on Utopia of the Seas: Dining, Fun & Accessibility
Curator’s statement

Royal Caribbean is an incredible choice for families and groups, especially with Utopia of the Seas, one of the newest ships. Royal Caribbean stands out from other cruises for its diverse inventory of cabins—something for everyone—which can also make it difficult to book. Another amazing point is the company’s intentional approach to accessibility. From thoughtful ship design to the implementation of inclusive policies across the entire fleet, it’s clear that Royal Caribbean is making meaningful strides in ensuring travel is enjoyable for everyone.

Royal Caribbean’s commitment to accessibility

Accessibility isn’t just about mobility. Royal Caribbean is dedicated to ensuring that every guest enjoys a seamless vacation, with accommodations for:

  • Hearing & vision impairments.

  • Dialysis needs & dietary restrictions.

  • Developmental disabilities & autism.

While accessible staterooms are expected, what truly impressed me was the accessible Crown Suite, a stunning two-level suite with its own private elevator. Thoughtful design like this makes a world of difference for travelers with mobility challenges.

As a parent of a child with a developmental delay, I was especially happy to see a sign at the mini-golf course warning about photosensitive epilepsy risks and an accessible seat on the Boardwalk carousel. Small yet meaningful details like these make travel more inclusive.

Standout accessibility features

Royal Caribbean has taken real steps to ensure a seamless experience for all guests. Some key features include:

  • Wider corridors allowing 180-degree wheelchair turns.

  • Gradual inclines to public areas.

  • Pool & whirlpool lifts (at least one per ship).

Accessible staterooms featuring:

  • 32” entryways & bathroom doors.

  • Roll-in showers with grab bars.

  • Raised toilet seats.

  • Accessible balconies.

For guests with additional needs, advance accommodations can be arranged for oxygen, CPAP machines, extra extension cords, distilled water, mini-fridges, and more. I can help you make all these requests and have any additional supplies delivered to port.
