Westin Sacramento Riverfront Hotel Review: A Quiet Luxury Stay Along the River
Curator’s statement

Sacramento has plenty of hotel options, but very few feel like a true escape from the city. This property stands out for its riverfront setting, relaxed atmosphere, and ability to feel removed without being far from everything. After touring the hotel, it’s clear this is a strong option for clients who want a quieter, more refined stay with easy access to both nature and downtown Sacramento.

I recently completed a site inspection at the The Westin Sacramento, a boutique-style riverfront hotel that offers a noticeably different experience compared to larger, more traditional city properties.

With 101 rooms spread across three floors, the hotel feels intimate and easy to navigate. The property underwent a renovation approximately two years ago, and the overall impression is clean, updated, and well-maintained. One of the most compelling aspects of this hotel is its location along the Sacramento River, which creates a quieter and more scenic environment than what is typically found in central Sacramento. The direct access to walking and biking trails adds meaningful value, especially for clients who want outdoor space without needing to leave the property.

Guest rooms are generously sized for the Sacramento market, starting at approximately 400 square feet, with riverview rooms offering slightly more space. Suite options reach up to 917 square feet and include features such as separate bedrooms, kitchenettes, and multiple bathrooms, making them well-suited for extended stays or clients who want additional space. A particularly unique feature is the availability of rooms with two king beds, which is uncommon and can be helpful for certain family or group configurations.

Dining at the hotel is centered around Scott’s Seafood on the River, which offers waterfront views and has the capacity to accommodate up to 180 guests. This is a strong asset for the property, especially for clients who prefer having a quality dining option on-site. There is also a bar and lounge area, and breakfast is available for an additional charge.

The amenities support both relaxation and convenience. The hotel features a heated outdoor pool that was noted at approximately 80 degrees during the visit, along with a hot tub and an evening fireplace lounge area. A 24-hour fitness center is available, as well as a full-service spa, which adds to the overall appeal for clients looking for a more relaxing stay. The hotel also caters well to events, offering over 5,400 square feet of meeting space, multiple outdoor patio areas, and wedding services, making it a strong option for both corporate gatherings and social events.

This property is best suited for clients who are looking for a quieter, more upscale environment rather than a high-energy downtown experience. It works particularly well for couples, local staycations, small corporate retreats, and weddings. It is important to set expectations appropriately, as this is not a perks-driven luxury hotel. There are no built-in inclusions such as complimentary breakfast, automatic upgrades, or resort credits. However, advisor-added amenities like wine, charcuterie, or welcome treats can be arranged to enhance the overall experience.

Nightly rates typically average around $259, though pricing can increase significantly during weddings or large events, which is something to keep in mind when planning.

Need to know

The hotel is located approximately 15 miles from Sacramento International Airport, with an estimated drive time of about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Valet parking is available for an additional charge, and self-parking is also offered on-site.

The property is pet-friendly and includes Westin Heavenly dog beds, which is a nice added touch for clients traveling with pets. Accessibility features are in place throughout the hotel, including accessible paths of travel, pool access, fitness center access, and restaurant access, although some limitations may apply depending on specific needs.

It is important to note that this hotel does not include built-in luxury perks, and pricing can fluctuate depending on events happening on-site. There are also some operational updates worth being aware of, including a transition in revenue management that may impact rate consistency. Suites were not available for viewing during the inspection, and the river dock is expected to reopen pending licensing, though no confirmed timeline is currently available.
