Day 1: Blue Lagoon & Laugavegur Street

Blue Lagoon relaxation time!

After a long red-eye flight, the Blue Lagoon is the perfect place to unwind. While some people might call it a tourist trap, I personally think it’s totally worth it. There’s something truly soothing about floating in the vibrant blue waters, surrounded by stark black lava rocks. The contrast is stunning, and the spa treatments and mineral masks only add to the relaxation. After a few hours of bliss, head into Reykjavík to check into your hotel and get settled in.

Once you're ready, take a leisurely stroll along Laugavegur Street. It’s a buzzing cultural hot spot, filled with unique shops, lively bars, and local art. It’s the best way to feel the pulse of Reykjavík and soak in its creative energy. To wrap up your first day, grab a bite at Ramen Momo—Reykjavík’s first-ever ramen joint. With handmade dumplings and freshly made ramen noodles, it’s a fun spot and a great place to kick back like a local.

Day 2: Golden Circle tour

Gullfoss Waterfall

Day two is all about exploring Iceland’s natural wonders with an iconic Golden Circle tour. Your adventure kicks off at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a true gem in terms of history, culture, and geology. It's home to Iceland's largest natural lake and sits at the meeting point of two tectonic plates—North America and Eurasia—making it a fascinating geological landmark. Not only is it a stunning landscape, but it’s also where Iceland’s first national assembly, the Alþingi, was founded, shaping the country's legislative and judicial systems since the Viking Age.

Next, head to the Geysir geothermal area, home to the legendary “Great Geysir,” from which all other geysers get their name. This area is a vibrant mix of boiling mud pools, steaming vents, and colorful algae deposits. The highlight, however, is Strokkur, a geyser that erupts every four to eight minutes, sending superheated water as high as 20 meters into the air—it’s an awe-inspiring spectacle you don’t want to miss.

The final stop on your Golden Circle adventure is Gullfoss, a magnificent waterfall that plummets down into the narrow Hvítárgljúfur Canyon. You can take a short walk along a pathway that brings you up close to the falls, feeling the mist on your face as the glacial waters thunder down—it’s an unforgettable sight and sound. This day will leave you with a deep appreciation for Iceland’s raw, natural beauty.

End your day at Hlemmur Mathöll for dinner. It is a truly fabulous spot for families with a lively food hall atmosphere. You will be able to find great meals for even the pickiest of eaters.

Day 3: Perlan Science Museum & Hallgrímskirkja

Hallgrímskirkja and Leif Eriksson Monument

Day three is dedicated to soaking in the sights and culture of Reykjavík itself. Begin your day at the Perlan Science Museum, where you can dive into the wonders of Iceland’s natural world. Don’t miss the Ice Cave, which gives you a taste of the frozen world inside glaciers, and the Volcano Experience, where you can feel the heat of an erupting volcano and learn about Iceland’s fiery landscape. It’s a perfect blend of education and adventure.

Next, take a leisurely stroll through Klambratún Park, a peaceful green space perfect for unwinding before heading towards Hallgrímskirkja—undoubtedly Iceland's most striking architectural masterpiece. This church, which took over 40 years to complete, stands tall and proud in the Reykjavík skyline. The views from the top, where you can see the entire city and surrounding landscapes, are absolutely worth the climb.

After admiring Hallgrímskirkja, wander around the charming streets nearby for unique souvenirs. Look for handmade wool sweaters, iconic Icelandic hats, and local candies, and enjoy a quick lunch with a delicious Icelandic hot dog. Then, make your way back to Laugavegur Street to continue exploring Reykjavík’s shopping scene.

If you’re a fan of Icelandic folklore, be sure to pop into Reykjavík Books & Chocolate at The Heartsquare. There, you can pick up some intriguing books while enjoying a sweet treat. For music lovers, make a stop at Smekkleysa Coffee & Record Shop—a must-see for fans of Björk and Sigur Rós. It’s a cozy spot to sip coffee, browse vinyls, and immerse yourself in Iceland’s rich music scene.

End your day with a delicious dinner at Reykjavík Kitchen, a family-owned hot spot that serves up the very best of local Icelandic cuisine. It’s a great place to reflect on your day of exploring the city’s diverse offerings and indulge in some authentic flavors. To walk off dinner, enjoy a nice evening stroll to the waterfront area to view the Sun Voyager sculpture and Harpa Concert Hall.
