Advisor - A Coastal Escape: 5 Perfect Days in Maine
Curator’s statement

From charming seaside towns to rugged national parks, our five-day escape to Maine was the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and quintessential New England charm. Traveling with my husband made it all the sweeter as we soaked in salty air, scenic drives, fresh seafood (even if I didn’t love all of it), and postcard-worthy views around every corner.

Day 1: A sweet start

Portland → Kennebunkport

We kicked off our adventure with a flight to Portland, Maine, eager to trade everyday life for ocean breezes and coastal charm. After landing, we grabbed lunch at Shipyard Brewery, a perfect first taste of Maine with great food and craft beer.

Next, we explored Minute Man National Park, soaking up a bit of American history before hitting the road for Kennebunkport. The scenic drive set the tone for the trip—tree-lined roads, charming towns, and hints of the coastline ahead.

We checked into the Kennebunkport Inn, right in the heart of town, making it the ideal home base for our stay. After settling in, we wandered around town and embraced the cozy coastal vibe, excited for the days ahead.

Day 2: Coastal charm & wildlife encounters

Kennebunkport

Friday was all about exploring Kennebunkport, a picture-perfect seaside town filled with boutiques, historic homes, and waterfront views.

We enjoyed lunch at The Spirit Restaurant, followed by a peaceful walk through the Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary, where winding trails and serene scenery offered a refreshing break in nature.

Later, we walked—and biked—along the coastline to see the famous Bush compound, taking in the sweeping ocean views along the way.

We wrapped up the day in the most relaxing way possible: cocktails in Adirondack chairs overlooking the water at the Breakwater Inn. Watching the sun dip below the horizon with a drink in hand felt like pure coastal bliss.

Day 3: Acadia adventures

Kennebunkport → Bar Harbor

Saturday brought one of the highlights of the trip—our drive to Bar Harbor. Along the way, we explored Acadia National Park, with its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and scenic overlooks.

The crown jewel was the drive up Cadillac Mountain, where we were rewarded with sweeping panoramic views that made the winding roads totally worth it.

That evening, we enjoyed dinner at The Thirsty Whale, a lively waterfront spot that quickly became a favorite. We checked into the West Street Hotel, perfectly located for exploring Bar Harbor on foot.

Day 4: Lobsters, boats & coastal nights

Bar Harbor

Sunday started with a Lulu Lobster Boat Tour, giving us a firsthand look at Maine’s iconic lobster industry—both fascinating and fun.

Later, I officially tried lobster for the first time at the legendary Trenton Lobster Pound. While I can’t say I loved it, the experience was unforgettable and absolutely essential for a Maine trip.

After another day of exploring, we couldn’t resist returning to The Thirsty Whale for a cozy nightcap, soaking up the waterfront ambiance one last time.

Day 5: A scenic farewell

Bar Harbor → Portland

On Monday, we made the scenic drive back to Portland, stopping at breathtaking viewpoints along the way.

Our favorite stops included the iconic Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, standing tall against the crashing waves, and a visit to the famous Stephen King House, a must-see for any literary fan.

With full hearts, happy memories, and far too many photos, we wrapped up our journey with our flight home—already dreaming of our next adventure. Maine completely stole our hearts.

From charming coastal towns and rugged national parks to fresh seafood and scenic drives, every day offered something new. It was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation—and an unforgettable getaway with my favorite travel companion.
