Things to do in San Diego

Belmont Park: A classic beachfront amusement park with rides, games, and food right on the boardwalk, perfect for letting kids burn energy. A huge bonus with this park is the height requirements for most of the rides allow pre-K kids to have just as much fun as their older siblings.
Museums & parks at Balboa Park: A mix of open green spaces, playgrounds, and hands-on museums that make it easy to balance learning with room to run.
LEGOLAND California: Built for younger kids, this colorful theme park combines rides, water play, and endless LEGO creativity without the overwhelming scale of bigger parks.
K1 Speed: Indoor electric go-kart racing that’s fast, exciting, and surprisingly family-friendly for older kids and teens. For families with younger kids, check out Boomers Vista.
Sesame Place San Diego: A gentle theme park and water park designed for younger kids with familiar characters, splash pads, and manageable lines.
La Jolla Underwater Park: A protected marine area where families can snorkel, kayak, and see sea life up close.
San Diego Padres game: A laid-back ballpark experience with great food, kid zones, and views that make it fun even if baseball isn’t the main event.
Places to eat & drink in San Diego

Clayton’s Coffee Shop: A classic diner serving big breakfasts and comfort food that hits the spot before a full day of exploring. If you’re exploring Coronado Island on foot, Clayton's has a to-go window on the right side of the building.
The Melt: Over-the-top grilled cheese sandwiches and comfort classics that kids will love and adults secretly want just as much.
Smokin J’s BBQ: Casual, smoky BBQ with generous portions and quick service, making it an easy win for hungry families.
Tacos El Gordo: A must-stop for authentic Tijuana-style tacos, known for bold flavors and fast-moving lines.
Flor’s Farm to Table: Located in the Old Town Urban Market, this cozy, locally-focused spot has an incredible menu. The nacho burrito will change your life!
Slater’s 50/50: Another must-stop for its famous half-beef, half-pork burgers. It’s laid-back and has plenty of options for the kids. Try their artichoke dip—you won’t regret it.
Mr. Moto Pizza (Seaport Village): Giant New York-style slices in a walkable waterfront setting. Perfect for a quick, kid-approved meal between activities with a stunning view of North San Diego Bay.
Need to know
Mornings can be cool and cloudy—pack some light layers even in summer.
Pre-book for popular attractions. The zoo, LEGOLAND, and Padres games can sell out fast.
Parking can be scarce, especially if you’re downtown on a Padres game day. Thankfully, San Diego has a very reliable public transit system with buses, trains, and streetcars.
There are lots of options for beach gear rental, such as Mission Beach Rentals @ Belmont. No need to pack any bulky beach toys or boogie boards.
If you’re looking for a sweet treat, Cali Cream Homemade Ice Cream in the Gaslamp District is an excellent option for the whole family.
