More than just a race, the weekend is a moving tribute to resilience, community, and remembrance, with emotional moments woven throughout the course. Day 1: Arrive in Oklahoma City & get settled

Arrive in Oklahoma City on Thursday and settle in for an inspiring marathon weekend ahead. After landing at Will Rogers World Airport, pick up your rental vehicle and make your way to your hotel to check in, unwind, and get acquainted with the city’s welcoming energy. In the evening, head to Parlor OKC for dinner, where a lively atmosphere and collection of local food concepts make it the perfect first taste of Oklahoma City. Enjoy a relaxed evening, fuel up for the days ahead, and soak in the excitement building around marathon weekend.

Day 2: Museums & packet pick-up

Start your Friday with breakfast at Hatch Early Mood Food, a local favorite known for its creative brunch dishes and energetic atmosphere. Spend the morning exploring two of Oklahoma City’s cultural attractions: First Americans Museum, which offers an immersive look at the history and cultures of the 39 First American Nations in Oklahoma, and National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, home to world-class Western art and the spirit of the American West. Pause midday for a bite at Saturn Grill before heading to pick up your race packets and soak in the excitement of race weekend. End the evening in the heart of Bricktown with dinner and local brews at Bricktown Brewery, a relaxed spot perfect for preparing for the miles ahead. Try their blueberry beer—it’s awesome!

Day 3: 5K & memorial museum

Tackle the first event of the “Why We Run” Series with Saturday’s 5K, then stay to cheer on participants in the Kids Marathon and Senior Marathon events as the city fills with encouragement and energy. After the festivities, enjoy brunch at Neighborhood JAM, a vibrant local favorite known for creative breakfast classics and excellent coffee. Spend the afternoon visiting the powerful and moving Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, an essential experience that honors the lives impacted by the 1995 bombing and reflects the resilience of the Oklahoma City community. The museum can be a very emotional experience—allow time to reflect in the outdoor memorial space. In the evening, wind down with dinner at Kitchen No. 324, where comforting, locally inspired dishes provide the perfect fuel for Sunday’s big events.

Day 4: Race day & celebration

Sunday is race day—the culmination of an emotional and inspiring weekend in Oklahoma City. Whether you are running the quarter marathon, half marathon, or full marathon, the day is filled with incredible crowd support, meaningful memorial moments and an atmosphere unlike any other race weekend. After crossing the finish line and taking time to recover, spend the afternoon exploring the charming Paseo Arts District, known for its colorful Spanish Revival architecture, local galleries and boutiques, and creative energy. In the evening, celebrate your accomplishment with dinner at Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, one of the city’s premier steakhouses and the perfect setting for a memorable post-race meal. End the night with a celebratory cocktail at The Library at The National, where an elegant atmosphere and expertly crafted drinks provide a fitting toast to marathon weekend.

Day 5: Headed home

Ease into your final morning in Oklahoma City with breakfast at Cafe Kacao, a beloved local spot known for its vibrant atmosphere and memorable Latin-inspired brunch dishes. Before heading home, make one last stop at Myriad Botanical Gardens to stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds and reflect on an unforgettable marathon weekend filled with meaningful moments, community spirit, and personal accomplishment. On your way to the airport, stop at Stockyards City and Langston’s to pick out a pair of cowboy boots. Did you really go to Oklahoma if you didn’t buy a pair of boots?!

Need to know

Oklahoma weather can be unpredictable in late April, so pack for a range of conditions and keep an eye on the forecast throughout the weekend.

Oklahoma City is not a public-transit-friendly city. I highly recommend you rent a vehicle and reserve as early as possible. On our recent trip, rental prices more than doubled from when we originally booked to our arrival.

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is an especially emotional race, honoring the lives impacted by the 1995 bombing and creating a meaningful atmosphere throughout the course. Each race morning starts with 168 seconds of silence to honor the 168 lives lost, and the last mile of the course has a sign for each person killed.

One of the highlights of the weekend is the incredible crowd support, with spectators lining the streets to cheer runners on from start to finish. I’ve completed over two dozen races, and OKC stands out for the best crowd support. Each spot of the course has spectators cheering, holding signs, and providing water, food, beer, and Jell-O shots.
