Advisor - A Journey Through South Africa’s Garden Route & Winelands
Curator’s statement

Driving from Port Elizabeth to the Winelands of the Western Cape is one of my favorite experiences in South Africa. The Garden Route, a 200-kilometer stretch along one of the world’s most breathtaking coastlines, combines everything I love about travel—breathtaking views, coastal towns full of character, incredible hiking trails, and meals that are as memorable as the landscapes. Along the way, there’s unique flora and fauna, wildlife encounters, and lively local markets that add so much authenticity. Ending in the Winelands, with its world-class food, wine, and scenery, always feels like the perfect finale to an unforgettable journey.

Need to know

When I traveled the Garden Route and Winelands in winter, I discovered a different kind of beauty—quieter towns, cooler days, and the incredible thrill of whale watching along the coast. While the weather can be a bit unpredictable with some rain, there are still plenty of crisp, sunny days to enjoy the hikes, markets, and coastal views. If you prefer warmer weather and more buzz, summer (December–February) is lively but also the busiest and priciest season. Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) strike a balance with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Whatever the season, the Garden Route and Winelands promise a journey filled with landscapes, flavors, and moments that stay with you.
