Curator’s statement

Salado is a very beautiful, small community with most things within walking distance. You can shop at the small boutiques and antique shops and visit the local breweries. Visit the glass blowing show and take a class on glass blowing. Then, swim in the cool Salado creek that runs through town.

Things to do in Salado, TX

  • Visit the local boutiques and small shops that make up the Salado Strand or walkway; there are several small boutiques and shops along the walkway offering handmade clothing, antiques, food, and relaxation.

  • Visit the brewery for some live music and food and drink; there are several in the Salado area but we generally go to Barrow Brewery as they are right down by the creek. Enjoy a wonderful cider with food trucks and regular live music both inside and outside the venue.

  • Visit the glass-blowing shop and watch them create glass pieces. This is a wonderful experience; just watching them create pieces is enjoyable, but getting to learn how it is done and getting to create your own piece of glasswork is phenomenal.

  • Visit the smoke shop for a good cigar. I enjoy a good cigar every now and then, and they have a nice little shop right by the glass-blowing shop that has a well-stocked humidor and seating both inside and out. It is veteran-owned, and so are all of the friendly folks I have met there.

  • Just a stroll along the walkway is relaxing and enjoyable; you can visit the sites or just sit by the creek. It does get hot during the summer but is still a nice walk with a number of stops you can make and just enjoy the day and the area.

Places to eat & drink in Salado, TX

Stagecoach Inn

  • Stagecoach Inn Restaurant: Enjoy the small-town atmosphere with the high-end food and drinks they serve. The pork chop is to die for, the chicken fried steak is awesome, but their menu changes from time to time.

  • The Shed: Old-world, rustic atmosphere, but the Frito pie is wonderful. They have a full menu with some good appetizers, great burgers, and cool drinks. Enjoy both indoor and relaxing outdoor dining.

  • Barton House: A fine dining location with an old rustic atmosphere, located downtown in an old house. Their menu is vast, and their steaks are good, but I love getting the Lasagna when it is on the menu.

  • Barrow Brewing Company: They specialize in brewing beer and great cider, but they have a pizza truck and weekly food trucks. I love the lobster truck; the German truck stops by every now, and the Korean barbecue truck is wonderful.

Need to know

This is a lovely small community; you can walk to most places, but you need a car to get to and from Salado. Stillhouse and Belton Lake are not too far away and just visiting the area is nice for a long weekend.
