Curator’s statement
Breckenridge truly feels like a mountain gem—especially in March. That’s when spring skiing really shines. The days are sunny, the temperatures are mild, and the snow is still in great shape, so you can be out on the slopes in just a hoodie and feel completely comfortable. It’s also such a nice change from the busy winter season—fewer crowds, shorter lift lines, and a more relaxed, easygoing vibe all around. This trip was especially meaningful for our family. My husband and I had always dreamed of taking our two daughters skiing when they were younger, but life (and sports schedules!) had other plans. We finally made it happen when they were 23 and 21, and it was worth the wait. They both decided to try snowboarding for the first time and signed up for a full day of lessons. There were definitely plenty of falls along the way, but by the end of the day, they had really picked it up and were confidently getting the hang of it—it was so fun to watch. One of my favorite parts of being in Breckenridge in the spring is the après-ski experience. After a morning on the mountain, we’d stop for lunch mid-mountain, sitting outside with a cocktail, soaking in the bluebird skies and warm sunshine. We’d usually wrap up skiing around 2 p.m. and head back to the resort to relax in the hot tub—such a perfect way to unwind. What I love most is how the whole day flows. You get that winter experience in the morning with skiing and snowboarding, and by the later afternoon, it almost feels like spring—you can walk around town in lighter layers, enjoy live music, and just take in the beautiful mountain views. It really is the best of both worlds—active, fun, and relaxed all at the same time.

Spring skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort: Spring is honestly one of my favorite times to ski or snowboard here. You get those bright, sunny bluebird days, softer snow, and way fewer crowds—so you can really enjoy the slopes without feeling rushed or packed in.
Après-ski: After a day on the mountain, there’s nothing better than heading to base lodges, grabbing a drink, and relaxing on an outdoor patio watching the skiers and boarders coming down the mountain. With live music, good comfort food, and warmer weather, it’s such a fun, laid-back way to end the day.
Attend the Spring Fever Festival: If you’re there at the right time, Breckenridge Spring Fever Festival really brings the whole trip to life. Between the concerts, themed ski events, and fun, lighthearted competitions, the energy around town is contagious—it just feels so lively and festive. What I love most is that it’s not just a quick weekend event. It actually stretches over several weeks, usually kicking off around the third week of March and continuing through mid-to-late April, right up until the ski season wraps up.
Explore historic downtown Breckenridge: I always find myself drawn to downtown Historic Downtown Breckenridge—there’s just so much charm everywhere you turn. I love taking my time wandering through the streets, popping into fun little specialty shops, cozy restaurants, and art galleries along the way. The spring weather makes it even better because you can slow down and really enjoy it all.
You’ll also come across some familiar favorites like Columbia, Patagonia, The North Face, and Lululemon, which is great if you want to pick up something practical or stylish. But honestly, my favorite part is just exploring—Main Street is packed with so many shops and boutiques that some of the best finds are the ones you stumble into without even planning it.
Ride the BreckConnect Gondola: Even if you’re not skiing, this is a must-do. The views are incredible, and it’s such an easy, relaxing way to take in the mountains. You can even ride up and grab lunch at the base of

We had so many great meals in Breckenridge—it honestly became part of the fun of the trip.
At Breckenridge Brewery & Pub, you get that classic mountain-town feel with great craft beer and comforting, homestyle food. I ordered the meatloaf, and it was one of those dishes you don’t forget—so tender, super flavorful, and just hit the spot after a day on the mountain.
Ollie’s Pub & Grub was such a unique experience, set right on a restored gold mining dredge along the Blue River. It’s a fun, laid-back place with tons of TVs—perfect if you’re into sports. My husband is still talking about the burger he had there… he swears it was one of the best he’s ever had.
If you’re in the mood for pizza, Breckenridge Ale House & Pizza is a great stop. They’re known for their thin crust, and those huge slices (seriously, they’re massive), plus a solid selection of Colorado beers on tap. It’s casual, easy, and perfect for a relaxed night overlooking Main Street.
One of the most memorable meals for me was at Quandary Grille. The views alone—overlooking Peak 9 and Maggie Pond—are worth it. The menu leans southwestern with steaks and burgers, but I ended up ordering a “side” of mac and cheese as my main dish… and we couldn’t stop laughing when it came out. The portion was huge, and it was incredibly creamy, and delicious—definitely not what I’d consider just a side!
For something more casual and fun, Downstairs at Eric’s is a great spot. It has a lively atmosphere with pizza, wings, and a big beer selection—perfect for families or just a relaxed night out.
We also stopped by Blue Stag Saloon for an after-dinner drink. They’re known for their wild game dishes like elk and bison, but for us, it was all about the atmosphere. We sat outside in Adirondack chairs around the fire pits, just enjoying the crisp mountain air. Once the sun goes down, you really feel that chill come back—it was such a cozy, peaceful way to end the evening.
Need to know
One thing I really appreciated about getting around Breckenridge is how easy it is. The BreckConnect Gondola is completely free and so convenient—we used it all the time and never had to deal with parking. There’s also a great free bus system, so once you’re there, you truly don’t need a car at all.
The altitude is something to be mindful of—it definitely caught us a little off guard at first. Since Breckenridge sits pretty high up, we made sure to drink lots of water, take it easy that first day, and not overdo it. It really does make a difference, especially until you adjust.
Another thing we quickly learned—the sun is no joke up there! Even in the cooler months, it’s strong. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip balm with SPF became part of our daily routine, especially on those gorgeous bluebird ski days.
And honestly, even if you’re not skiing all day, the après-ski scene is something I’d absolutely recommend experiencing. There’s just something about sitting outside with a drink, listening to live music, and taking in those mountain views—it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the whole trip.
