Day 1: Arrival in Split & Krka National Park

Krka National Park

Begin your Croatia journey in Split with a scenic introduction to the Dalmatian Coast. After arriving and picking up your rental car, head inland to explore cascading waterfalls and lush landscapes before settling into Split for the evening. Spend the night wandering the waterfront promenade, enjoying local wine bars, and taking in the city’s relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. I always recommend keeping the first day flexible to recover from travel while still experiencing Croatia’s natural beauty right away.

Day 2: Coastal road trip to Dubrovnik

Today is all about experiencing the breathtaking Dalmatian coastline as you make your way south toward Dubrovnik. This route is filled with dramatic seaside views, charming coastal towns, and plenty of opportunities to stop for fresh seafood and local wine along the way. Rather than rushing the drive, I recommend treating it as part of the experience—some of the most memorable moments in Croatia happen between destinations. Arriving in Dubrovnik by evening gives you time to settle in and soak up the city’s iconic atmosphere.

Day 3: Exploring Dubrovnik

Old Town Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is best experienced both on land and from the water, making today perfect for coastal adventures and relaxed exploration. Spend time discovering hidden coves, nearby islands, and the city’s historic beauty from a different perspective. One of my favorite things about Dubrovnik is how easily you can balance activity with downtime, whether that means exploring Old Town or unwinding at a seaside resort. Sunset along the Adriatic here feels especially magical.

Day 4: Ferry to Hvar Island

Hvar marina

Travel from Dubrovnik to Hvar, one of Croatia’s most iconic islands known for its vibrant waterfront, crystal-clear water, and lively atmosphere. Ferry travel along the Adriatic is part of the experience and offers some of the best coastal views of the trip. Once in Hvar, spend the evening exploring the harbor, enjoying fresh seafood, and wandering the historic stone streets. I always suggest slowing down once you arrive on the islands—Hvar is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

Day 5: Island-hopping & beach clubs in Hvar

Island hopping to the Pakleni islands

Today is dedicated to experiencing the best of Hvar’s island lifestyle. Spend the day out on the water discovering secluded coves, nearby islands, and some of the Adriatic’s most stunning swimming spots. Stop for lunch at one of the nearby islands. Hvar offers a unique mix of laid-back beach culture and upscale coastal energy, making it easy to tailor the day to your travel style. Sunset drinks by the water are a must while on the island.

Day 6: Slow day in Hvar

Exploring Hvar beaches

One of the best parts of visiting Hvar is leaving space for slower travel days. Use today to explore hidden beaches, browse local shops, enjoy long lunches by the sea, or take a ferry to a nearby island village. The Dalmatian Coast is meant to be savored rather than rushed, and Hvar captures that feeling perfectly. I often recommend keeping one completely flexible day in Croatia to allow for spontaneity and relaxation.

Day 7: Discovering the local side of Hvar

Local farm to table experience near Stari Grad

Venture beyond Hvar Town today to experience a quieter and more authentic side of the island. From secluded beaches to charming villages and local food experiences, this day highlights why Hvar is so much more than just a nightlife destination. Exploring inland areas and lesser-known coastal spots gives travelers a deeper appreciation for Dalmatian culture and island life. It’s also a great opportunity to slow down and enjoy Croatia’s incredible food and wine scene.

Day 8: Return to Split & final coastal stops

Relaxing at hotel near Split airport and walkable to old town Trogir

Return to Split by ferry while taking in one last journey across the Adriatic Sea. Depending on timing, this is a great opportunity to visit another coastal town, enjoy a leisurely lunch by the water, or fit in some final sightseeing before your trip ends. I always recommend ending a Croatia itinerary with a relaxed day rather than overpacking the schedule. It allows travelers to fully appreciate the slower rhythm of the Dalmatian Coast before heading home. Make sure you choose a hotel with a pool to relax and lounge!

Tips: Rent a car for easier exploration in Split and Dubrovnik. When in Hvar, you can walk everywhere.
