Advisor - Twilight in Oregon: A 7-Day Itinerary
Curator’s statement

Hey Loca, ready to explore Oregon like a true Twilighter? Stepping into your favorite book or movie is every reader and film buff’s dream—and with Twilight, it’s totally possible. Oregon is where cinematic magic meets jaw-dropping nature: misty forests, epic waterfalls, and the real-life spots where Bella, Edward, and Jacob’s stories came to life. I specialize in weaving travel with storytelling, so this itinerary blends iconic movie backdrops with off-the-beaten-path discoveries. The result? A journey that feels both familiar and brand new—like turning the page to the next chapter of your favorite book. Portland and Cannon Beach, Oregon, will be your home bases for this itinerary.

Day 1: Twilight beginnings in Portland

Silver Falls State Park, Oregon

Start your spidermonkey adventure off by heading to Silver Falls State Park (about an hour south of Portland), where the opening deer-hunt scene and Edward’s treetop climb were filmed. Hike a stretch of the Trail of Ten Falls, one of Oregon’s most iconic waterfall loops, for a dose of the lush greenery that set the mood for the saga. Refuel at the Carver Café, the real diner where Bella and Charlie share meals on screen. Wrap up day one by revealing “the skin of a killer” at Stone Cliff Inn. Perched above the Clackamas River, Stone Cliff Inn is home to several forest backdrops that came to life—complete with an on-site sign pointing out movie details.

Day 2: Baseball & prom

Multnomah Falls

Head into the Columbia River Gorge to explore Multnomah Falls, where surrounding trails transport you into Edward and Bella’s world. Nearby, you’ll find The Shire, a private property (viewable from the road) where the iconic vampire baseball game was filmed. St. Cloud Park and other public trails are more accessible for your own recreation of any part of the scene—pitching is always my go-to. Cap off the day at View Point Inn, once the backdrop for the Twilight prom. Though partially destroyed in a 2011 fire, it’s being lovingly restored and is set to reopen in 2025 as a boutique stay focused on nature and holistic living.

Day 3: Small-town charm & Forks stand-ins

Head north to Kalama High School, which stood in as Forks High for all those moody exterior shots. For lunch, stop at Kalama Harbor Lodge by McMenamins (McMenamins Kalama), a quirky local chain known for pub fare, beer, and whimsical art. Continue to St. Helens, where you’ll find Bella and Charlie’s house at 184 South 6th Street and the Olde Towne district that doubled as Port Angeles. If you’re a fan of seasonal fun, St. Helens also celebrates its Halloweentown fame every fall.

Day 4: A day in Portland

Me at the Multnomah Whiskey Library

Spend today exploring Portland itself—an artsy, foodie haven with a Twilight twist. Visit Madison High School, used for the interior Forks High School shots, then swing by the modern Cullen House (a private residence—please admire respectfully from the street). For local flavor, wander through Powell’s City of Books, the world’s largest independent bookstore, or grab dinner at Le Pigeon, a French-inspired Portland institution. Wrap the night with cocktails at Multnomah Whiskey Library for a cozy, mysterious vibe befitting a vampire love story.

Day 5: On the road to the coast

Vernonia, Oregon

On your way to Cannon Beach, stop in Vernonia, where most of the Forks town exteriors were filmed, and enjoy a wander through its small-town streets. Grab coffee and baked goods at Black Iron Coffee Roasters. Continue west to Cannon Beach, home of the iconic Haystack Rock, and check into your hotel. If time allows, detour to Astoria for another cinematic stop: The Goonies filming sites.

Day 6: La Push at Indian Beach

Indian Beach, Ecola State Park, Oregon

Today is all about the Oregon Coast’s rugged beauty. Head into Ecola State Park to visit Indian Beach, which stood in for La Push Beach in the movies—complete with crashing waves, tide pools, and driftwood-scattered sand. Pack a picnic or grab fish and chips at Ecola Seafoods Restaurant & Market in town. End the evening wandering Cannon Beach’s boutiques and art galleries before a sunset stroll along the sand. Fun fact: Movies like 1941, The Goonies, and Point Break were all filmed here, too.

Day 7: Coastal farewell

Tillamook Creamery

Spend your final day exploring smaller coastal towns near Cannon Beach. Manzanita offers a quieter stretch of sand and charming shops like Cloud & Leaf Bookstore. If you’re up for a foodie side trip, head south to the Tillamook Creamery for cheese, ice cream, and a behind-the-scenes look at Oregon’s most famous dairy brand. Wrap up with a leisurely dinner overlooking the Pacific before saying goodbye to Twilight’s moody Oregon landscapes.

Need to know

Many of the sites—like Silver Falls State Park, Ecola State Park, and the small towns of Vernonia and St. Helens—offer hiking, wildlife spotting, and outdoor adventures, so bring comfortable and appropriate shoes and rain gear to fully enjoy Oregon’s lush landscapes. Layers are your best friend in the Pacific Northwest.

Make sure to really take your time to explore the areas in the itinerary and support local businesses, from cafés to bookstores to thrift shops and more. Supporting local is a way to immerse yourself in the culture while traveling sustainably.

Portland has an amazing food and nightlife scene, so if that is your vibe, make sure to check that out and plan in more time for that outside of my top favorites that I suggested on day four.

This itinerary requires a car. I highly recommend a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle if you are going to be exploring in the rainy season or going further off the beaten path than this itinerary is already taking you. Some locations can be accessed by public transportation, but I would not rely on that or recommend outside of Portland itself.

Finally, plan your trip with some flexibility—some filming sites are private or partially under restoration (like View Point Inn), and weather in the Pacific Northwest can change quickly, making spontaneity part of the fun. By following this approach, you’ll experience Twilight’s world while respecting the environment and the communities that make it so special.
