Curator’s statement
I had the privilege of living in Bangkok for two years while working as a chef for the Peruvian Embassy—and during that time, I completely fell in love with the rhythm of the city. From early mornings in quiet temples to nights filled with sizzling street food and rooftop views, Bangkok became more than a destination to me—it became a part of my story. This guide reflects the places and moments that made me feel alive in this vibrant, layered, and endlessly fascinating city.

Things to do in Bangkok
1. Visit the Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew
No trip to Bangkok is complete without a visit to this dazzling complex. The Grand Palace is a former royal residence that still hosts important ceremonies today. Inside, you’ll find Wat Phra Kaew—the Temple of the Emerald Buddha—one of the most sacred sites in Thailand. Arrive early to beat the crowds and heat, and remember to dress respectfully.
2. See the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho
This temple houses a massive 46-meter-long reclining Buddha, fully covered in gold leaf. Wat Pho is also home to a renowned traditional Thai massage school where you can enjoy an authentic treatment after exploring.
3. Watch sunset at Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)
On the opposite side of the river from Wat Pho, this stunning temple is known for its steep, colorful spire. The views are most magical at sunset. You can take a short ferry ride to admire it from the riverbank, cafés, or bars.
4. Take a longtail boat tour through the Khlongs
Escape the city’s chaos and explore Bangkok’s traditional canals. You’ll see life on the water—from wooden homes and floating vendors to peaceful temples tucked along the riverbanks.
5. Go on a Chao Phraya River Dinner Cruise
Spend a relaxing evening floating past the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and the city’s lit-up skyline while enjoying a multi-course Thai dinner. Great for couples or solo travelers looking to soak in the views.
6. Stroll through Chatuchak Weekend Market
One of the largest open-air markets in the world with over 8,000 stalls. You’ll find everything from streetwear to plants to antiques—plus endless Thai snacks. Plan to go early and bring cash.
7. Experience Bangkok nightlife at rooftop bars
Don’t miss Sky Bar at Lebua, Octave, or Vertigo. All offer world-class views and chic vibes. Arrive before sunset for the full golden-hour experience.
8. Explore Chinatown at night
Bangkok’s Chinatown is a food lover’s dream after dark. Neon signs light up sizzling woks and dumpling stalls. Grab some grilled squid, mango sticky rice, or just wander and soak in the atmosphere.
9. Walk around Khao San Road
Known for its backpacker culture, Khao San is wild, colorful, and full of energy. Come for a foot massage, funky souvenirs, or a night of bar-hopping with travelers from all over the world.
10. Relax with a traditional Thai massage
You can find massage shops on nearly every corner, but for a truly skilled and traditional experience, try Health Land or the Wat Pho massage school.
11. Take a day trip to Ayutthaya
Just 1.5 hours from Bangkok, this ancient capital is filled with temple ruins, UNESCO-listed heritage, and a rich sense of history. Rent a bike or take a boat to explore.
12. Visit the Maeklong Railway Market
A one-of-a-kind market that literally folds up when a train passes through it. Incredible for photos and perfect to pair with a floating market visit.
