Advisor - A Tale of Two Cabos
Curator’s statement

Before this trip, I thought of Cabo as just another beach town—margaritas, sunburns, and spring break energy. But what I found was a destination with split personalities, in the best way. Cabo San Lucas is all about energy: music, nightlife, and constant motion. Meanwhile, San José del Cabo offered me a completely different experience—peaceful mornings, art walks, and slow, sunny lunches. It was like discovering two destinations in one place. I came for work, but left with a real appreciation for how dynamic this region is—and a running list of places I’m already recommending to friends and clients.

Things to do in Cabo

Strolling art galleries in San José del Cabo

1. Sunset dinner cruise from Cabo San Lucas Marina

Our last night ended on a high with a sunset dinner cruise—and if you’re debating whether it’s worth it, it is. Watching the sun drop behind the Arch while sipping wine on deck was a total “main character” moment. The food is casual, but the views steal the show.

2. Stroll the art-filled streets of San José del Cabo

After lunch at the Viceroy, we wandered into downtown San José del Cabo and I was honestly charmed. Galleries, handmade goods, little pops of color everywhere—it feels worlds away from the party scene in Cabo San Lucas. If you’re here on a Thursday, don’t miss the evening Art Walk!

3. Taco Tuesday at Awacate (Viceroy Los Cabos)

This was not your average taco lunch. Beautifully plated dishes, creative salsas, and fresh seafood in an architectural space that makes you feel like you’re dining inside a sculpture. The shrimp tacos were the standout for me, but I’d go back just for the setting.

4. Oceanfront golf

Even if you’re not a golfer, the courses in Los Cabos are jaw-droppingly scenic. Think manicured greens dropping into rocky cliffs and endless ocean. Some resorts offer discounts or packages, so ask ahead if you’re staying in The Corridor.

5. Pool time & resort activities

Most resorts in Cabo make it easy to never leave—swim-up bars, daily classes, beach volleyball, outdoor movies, and spa treatments. At Garza Blanca, I watched someone take a ceviche-making class while sipping a frozen mango margarita in a pool cabana. It’s that kind of vibe.

6. Wave watching (seriously)

The waves in Cabo are no joke. They crash with a force that feels almost theatrical—and while most beaches aren’t swimmable, you’ll want to carve out time to just sit, listen, and take it all in.

Places to eat & drink in Cabo

Delicious lunch at Awacate

1. Awacate Mexican Kitchen (Viceroy)

If you want a foodie moment, this is it. The setting is modern and artful, and the dishes are playful but rooted in tradition. Order the shrimp tacos—trust me. And if they’re offering anything with hibiscus or mole, go for it.

2. Downtown San José del Cabo Eats

After our gallery stroll, we ducked into one of dozens of little street cafes and had mezcal cocktails and grilled fish that tasted like it had come straight off a boat. San José is full of these hidden gems—don’t be afraid to wander and follow your nose.

3. Sunset Dinner Cruise from Cabo San Lucas

While the food is more “simple buffet” than gourmet, the setting elevates it all. You’ll get the delicious taco bar, cocktails, live music, and front-row seats to the best sunset in Baja.

4. Hyatt Ziva Restaurants

For families, this place is a win. We toured the resort during lunchtime and it was full of options—fresh poke bowls, burgers, churros, and kid-friendly bites. Even adults will be happy grazing here.

5. JW Marriott Dining

The food here felt as calm and thoughtful as the property itself. I had lunch on the ocean-facing terrace, and it was one of the most peaceful moments of the trip. Try the ceviche—it’s light, fresh, and beautifully plated. Their focus on fresh ingredients and clean flavors really shines through, and the service was warm without being overbearing. It’s the kind of place where you slow down and actually taste everything.

Need to know

  • Don’t skip the earplugs: If you’re staying at a “party” property near Cabo San Lucas and you’re not a night-owl, these will save your sleep.

  • Ask about all-inclusive add-ons: Some properties offer flexible packages, so you can choose how “all-inclusive” you want your stay to be.

  • Swimmable beaches are limited: Always ask before heading in—some of the most beautiful beaches are for sunbathing, not swimming, because of those powerful waves.

  • Book dinner reservations early: Especially at the higher-end resorts, dining slots fill up fast.
