Montenegro is the first country in Europe that I ever visited, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Not to mention, the landscapes around Kotor Bay absolutely stole my breath away. Some of the most striking mountains give way to the crispiest blue water I have ever had the pleasure of swimming in. Between the history, culture, landscapes, and cuisine, you need to make Montenegro your next destination.

Have a boat day
We booked in advance and had a wonderful time, but you could also just walk up to the docks in Park Slobode and pick an operator on the spot.
Do an Old Town food tour
This was one of my favorite activities. Not only did we have a fabulous tour guide and a delicious meal, but we got to meet some really fun people from all over the world.
Just meander around the Old Town
Just walk around, bop in and out of shops, and just get lost.
Get a tattoo at Kotor Ink
One of the most unique things we did because why not, and now I have a cutie little tattoo that will always remind me of my adventure in Kotor.
Ride the Kotor Cable Car
10/10 experience. I don’t love heights, but I’d do it again for the views alone!! Seeing all of Montenegro and some of Croatia too, from the top of the mountain was just insane! You have to try the alpine coaster too, such a cute ride with amazing views. If you like a little more adrenaline (I do not when I’m that high up), there’s another coaster that takes you off the side of the mountain.

Boka Bay
We stayed in Prcanj and were a short walk from Boka Bay, we were here so much we got to connect with the servers. The food is amazing and so fresh!
Cattaro
This spot is nestled on top of the old town walls and offers amazing views with an elevated menu.
Forza
The food here is pricey but delicious. Really, this is a moment of location, location, location. With the best views from the top of the mountain, it’s worth it to grab a meal just so you can sit and linger on the view.
La Piazzeta
Right in the middle of the main square in Old Town, this is a great spot for a good meal and people watching.
Bokafina in Prcanj
I went back a second time for their classic burger and caesar salad with grilled shrimp. I’d go back again if I was back in Montenegro now.
Need to know
Kotor Bay is bigger than it looks on the map. There are places to stay all up and down the coast, but to be close to the action, Prcanj, Kotor Old Town, and Dobrota are the best places to set up camp. You’ll be within a 15 minute drive from the old town in Prcanj or Dobrota, but it’ll be much quieter there versus the old town. It’s fairly easy to grab a taxi or you can use the MonteGo app to order a ride. It’s similar to Uber, but just note it can take a while to find a driver if it’s busy. The roads along the coast are crazy to navigate, if you get motion sickness easily, take a dramamine before rolling out.
