Advisor - Stockholm, Sweden: A Storybook City Made to Wander
Curator’s statement

Arriving in Stockholm, the forecast called for cold and rainy weather, but I had no idea I was about to have one of the most beautiful trips of my life. Between wandering the scenic streets and canals, viewing incredible art, meeting friendly locals, and enjoying delicious food, the weather only added to the charm of what felt like a storybook journey.

Things to do

Taking a ferry to Vaxholm

  • Explore Gamla Stan: Walk through Old Town to enjoy the cobbled streets, historic churches, shops, and colorful buildings.

  • Culinary experiences: Stockholm offers incredible international cuisine, coffee shops, and pastry shops.

  • Carl Eldhs Ateljémuseum: Visit the studio of one of Sweden's most prominent sculptors. Located in a building from the early 1900s, this space houses thousands of plaster models. It is a unique experience that allows you to get up close to the artwork.

  • Island hopping: Take a ferry to Vaxholm or one of the many nearby islands. It is a great way to enjoy the views of the surrounding fishing villages with a coffee in hand. Pro tip: You can take a ferry out and a 30-minute Uber back to the city if you prefer not to wait for the return boat schedule.

  • Vasa Museum: See the world's only preserved 17th-century ship and learn about its history and significance to the region. The museum is also surrounded by beautiful parks.

  • Shopping in Södermalm: This area is excellent for vintage and specialty stores. I recommend walking along Hornsgatan to find unique art and local items.

Places to eat & drink

Cardamom bun at Skeppsbro Bakery

  • Bakfickan: We enjoyed Bakfickan so much that we visited twice. It offers an inviting, cozy, and sophisticated bar setting with some of the most delicious Swedish meatballs we had during our trip.

  • Östermalm Market Hall: Ranked as one of the best food halls in the world, this is a great spot to enjoy fresh seafood and various Swedish delicacies from numerous vendors.

  • Skeppsbro Bakery: This was, hands down, the best cardamom bun we had in Stockholm. It’s perfect when paired with a cup of coffee and a view of the waterfront.

  • Schmaltz Bar & Delicatessen: We stumbled upon this quaint restaurant and loved the Reuben sandwich and chicken soup, all served in a sophisticated setting.

  • Folii Wine Bar: One of our favorite stops in the Södermalm neighborhood. This cozy bar plays vinyl records while you enjoy beautiful wines and fresh cheese and charcuterie boards. The staff is very knowledgeable and ensures a welcoming experience.

Need to know

The Arlanda Express train takes just 18 minutes from the airport to the city, making it faster than a taxi.

The official currency of Stockholm is the Swedish krona. However, credit cards are widely accepted.

Dress in layers. One hour, it could be rainy. The next, sunny and warm.
