Day 1: Arrive at the Vagar Airport

Mulafossur Waterfall majestically cascading from towering cliffs onto the rocky shores of Vágar Island in the Faroe Islands.

Upon arrival into Vagar Airport, the adventure begins! Located just 15 minutes from the airport is the iconic Múlafossur waterfall. Walk a few steps from the car park to the viewpoint. After taking in the view it's time to head out for your first hike! After a quick 20-minute drive, you'll stumble upon Sorvagsvatn, 'the lake over the ocean'. I enjoyed this hike so much I did it twice! The easy hike takes approximately one hour each way. When you reach then end, you ascend a steep hill for the breathtaking viewpoint. After a light workout you'll head to your accommodations in the capital of Tórshavn.

Day 2: Explore the Islands

A picturesque village nestled in a dramatic valley with grass covered roofs on top of wooden shacks and water cascading down a grassy hill.

After a good night’s rest, it's time to set out and explore the islands. Saksun is an idyllic town located in Streymoy. The secluded village is home to a minuscule 11 individuals. The grass covered roofs overlooking the lagoon are a site to be seen. After the long drive you'll want to enjoy a warm meal at none other than the Irish Pub. Walk further into town and reward yourself with a local Danish beer from Mikkellar.

Day 3: Visit the Mykines

Puffins walking along the grassy cliff with the vast blue sea in the background.

A trip to the Faroe Islands isn't complete without a visit to Mykines, home to the famous puffins! You will depart from Sørvágur via ferry where you are greeted by locals for a guided tour. The tour will take you to the cliffside where the puffins are located. Be sure to watch your step to avoid stepping on a puffin nest. The island has a small downtown with just 18 residents. The famous lighthouse on the islet of Mykineshólmur is to be seen from afar following the 2021 landslides, making it impossible to reach the lighthouse by foot. Return home to Tórshavn where you can dine at ROKS the sister restaurant to KOKS, a Michelin star winner that has temporarily relocated to Greenland. The set menu and wine list will leave you wanting more.

Day 4: See the Famous Kallur Lighthouse

A James Bond tombstone at Kalsoy Island in memory of the renowned spy.

Time to set off on your final hike to see the famous Kallur Lighthouse on Kalsoy Island. You may recognize this hike from the James Bond 007 film, No Time to Die. I highly recommend taking a tour to allow for safe navigation up the steep hill. Upon reaching the summit you can venture off a narrow cliffside for the best views of the lighthouse. Just a few steps away is the James Bond tombstone, erected by local villagers. The island has three houses, each a different color to represent each family. The island is so remote that prior to the construction of the tunnel, local children would get to school via a local helicopter.

Day 5: Live Like a Local

A view of the rocky cliffs, grassy hills and river in Sørvágsvatn which is also known as The Lake above the Ocean.

On your last day enjoy the local fare. The island is home to several great restaurants including Barbaras Fish House, Áarstova, Fiskastykkid and more! If you're feeling adventurous try the Skerpikjøt, a wind- dried and fermented mutton from the Faroe Islands. If that has your stomach turning stick with the local salmon!
