Advisor - Beyond the French Quarter: The Gems of New Orleans
Curator’s statement

New Orleans, "The Big Easy," is a fabulous place to frolic around the French Quarter with a grenade or hurricane in hand, but there is more than meets the eye! While it can certainly be fun to drink around the Quarter, here are my favorite spots around the city.

Things to do in New Orleans

  • Jackson Square: Named after Andrew Jackson, heading over to Jackson Square will let you hear music in the street, step into some shops and enjoy the scenery. My personal favorite people-watching location.

  • Magazine Street: Shopping, cafes and fine dining galore! Visit the gorgeous Magazine St mural and shop around the boutiques around lunch time. Swing into any of the bars for a drink or restaurants for some food!

  • Audobon Zoo: A great family or day-time activity. The zoo here is large and beautiful to walk around.

Places to eat & drink in New Orleans

  • Hot Tin Rooftop Bar: Settled atop the Pontchartrain Hotel, Hot Tin has an amazing atmosphere, decorations and views of the city. I highly recommend the Hi-G drink on their menu!

  • The Vintage: A busy spot for locals on Magazine St, start your morning here with coffee and a raspberry beignet or end your evening here at happy hour with a drink.

  • Banh Mi Boys: The best Vietnamese cuisine spot, the Po Boy sandwiches will change your life. The Magazine Street mural is on the side of Banh Mi Boys!

  • Creole Creamery: A perfect scoop of ice cream to beat the constant heat! The line that is constantly out the door is a tell-tale sign that this is the spot to be!
