Things to do on St. John

  • Beach-hopping: 75% of St. John Island is a protected national park, so every beach is an untouched gem with incredible sand and water. Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and Francis are some personal favorites.

  • Snorkeling: Imagine walking straight off the beach and seeing sea turtles, stingrays, fish, and coral reefs. Each beach is home to marine life unlike anywhere else, even the most inexperienced snorkelers can enjoy.

  • Hiking: Beach, jungles, and ruins? Say no more. St. John has moderate to advanced hiking options that allow you to enjoy the peaceful island while appreciating its history.

  • Boat trips: St. John is surrounded by islands, giving you the opportunity to see a lot in one day. Take a boat to Lime Out (the floating taco boat—yes, you eat in the water), the BVIs, or even untouched islands and coral reefs.

  • Shopping and eating: No vacation is complete without shopping and good food! St. John may be small, but they have great taste. From Mongoose Junction to Cruz Bay, there is something for everyone, including award-winning cuisine.

Places to eat & drink on St. John

  • ZoZo's at Caneel Bay: The best dinner experience. Reservations are limited and the menu is prix-fixe. Get there for sunset and enjoy the entire evening.

  • La Tapa: A local icon! This restaurant has been a staple on the island for years, and for good reason.

  • Lime Out: Tacos in the ocean? Say less. Take a trip out to the famous floating taco boat and have delicious food and drinks while sitting in the water. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Skinny Legs: Don’t judge a book by its cover! Skinny Legs is a literal shack, but a local favorite that I recommend to any visitor. Best burger I’ve ever had!

  • St. John Scoops: Visit the famous local ice cream shop in Mongoose Junction. They also have adult ice cream. Try the painkiller!

Need to know

  • This is a small island with limited resources. Plan ahead and plan early to ensure you can make the most of your experience.

  • I recommend a rental car! There are plenty of taxis, but having autonomy in your own vehicle goes a long way. PS- you drive on the left side of the road!

  • St. John is very casual. Nothing fancy is needed here. Generally a swimsuit is accepted attire anywhere, but shoes and shirts are required in some places.
